binder Abdominal Binders

Can you comment on pros and cons of wearing abdominal binders or support braces for a while after surgery? Do doctors recommend or frown on their use?

Doc didn’t recommend and I didn’t need one.

I woke up with one and was advised to wear it for 2 weeks except when I was sleeping. I think it helped. My abdominal muscles are not strong and the binder kind of held everything in.

I relied on my binder heavily 3 weeks after surgery. I was extremely sore from surgery and being stretched by the gas. Any small tiny movement really hurt, especially the first 5 days after surgery and the binder really helped minimize the pain from movements

Did your doctor recommend, or did you get it on your own? I used a binder after robotic surgery for endometrial cancer and found myself holding my abdomen whenever I had to move. A binder helped a lot, but I wonder this time if a binder would interfere with the staples and healing...

Woke up with one on. Took it off immediately. Hated it. Nurses said that it was for comfort only, and that I didn't have to wear it.

I walked miles and had very little pain. binder stayed in hospital room while I was roaming the ward:)

I didn't have stapes, just super glue, so can't answer to that part. But I think it actually helped the incisions heal by pulling everything together so that there wasn't a pulling tension on the incisions.

I feel more secure in my binder while things are healing up. It keeps my stomach from jiggling as much. I am 6 days post-op and my incisions have a glue like material on them. I do take the binder off at night while I sleep to let things breathe.

Depends on the doctor. My mom has the surgery a month before me with a different doctor and a different hospital and she woke up with one on and told her to wear it until she could get up and down easier. My doctor didn't give one but I ended up borrowing my moms for when I got up and down because it just felt so much better to have it against my stomach when I stood up and sat down. I only wore it for maybe a week but my mom had hers for a bout 3 weeks because she pushed herself too hard and pulled a stitch.
