Does anyone know if I can take melatonin? I’m struggling to stay asleep. It’s only been since the surgery. I’m about a month post op.

I take mine every night, have right up until the day of surgery, started taking it again just as soon as I got home from surgery. Zero issues and was approved by my surgeon.

I take it every night. I have serious issues falling asleep and if I don’t take it, I’ll be awake all night most of the time. I use the melting kind.

Yes, shouldn't be an issue... but it won't help you stay asleep. You could take it if you wake up, but taking it before bed only helps for a short window to fall asleep. Insomnia is something that some people experience for the first couple months (I did). Melatonin helped for falling asleep, tylenol PM (or just benedryl) also worked - but can make Constipation worse.

Update - I took some melatonin pills and according to Fitbit I slept for 8h 16m and was awake for 1h4m in that time. That's more sleep than I've had in a month. Thanks again to everyone for your advice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
