What did you have to do for hospital discharge?

Recommended Posts

I’m a rule follower BUT I’m also a planner. So, what have you heard or experienced are the things you need do do after surgery before being discharged?

All I have heard is possibly being able to walk to the bathroom or a certain number of steps and keeping liquids down.

Help! I have surgery in two weeks!

I had to do multiple laps around the ward, drink Water, and use the bathroom.

They made us stay 2 nights, but I have seen some people doing it as a day procedure so it's obviously up to the Surgeon.

Thank you. Okay, I have slippers with tread. I’m wondering if maybe I should have a rob to just throw on.

You may have a morphine drip in your arm. So have something you can drape over your shoulders and slippers you can easily put on without bending over too much.

I was in the hospital for 4 days. Did not have Morphin. When I had pain I got liquid hydrocodone which I did not need after day 2. I brought sweat pants and slip on shoes. Just put those on when I was supposed to walk and used the gown as a shirt tucked in.
Was always connected to an IV. Had to call the nurse when I went to the bathroom. They recorded the amount and color every time. Walked twice a day where I took a round in the hallway.
Bring a phone charger. With an extension or a very long cable. NO bring two. I dropped my phone and ripped my cable on day one. Had to beg the nurses for a charge daily.

Great thanks. I just bought an inexpensive robe but I also have elastic pants I could pull up and tuck in the ship. The robe seems like something I might use the days following surgery at home so it won’t be a waste. Thanks for reminding me about a long phone charger. Will do!

Pee, drink Water, pass my swallow test. I was there for less than 48 hours.

It seems to vary so much, I don't think you can plan it. I did all the things mentioned, pee, walk, keep liquids down, but none of it was presented as if I had to pass the test before discharge.

I had an IV in, so no way to wear a robe. My gown completely covered me, front and back, so no need for pants. The hospital provided nonslip socks, so no need for a slippers. The only things I used were chapstick, phone, iPad & charging cables.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
