Managing Insulin Resistance?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I could use some tips on managing my insulin resistance.

So, I received a call the other day from my surgeon's office saying that my bloodwork showed that I have insulin resistance (something that I've known for years that I have and told him that I have...but whatever) and that he wants to put me on Metformin. Normally I'd be fine with this; however, Metformin makes me ill. I was on it for years, all sorts of dosages and even the extended release, but nothing changed the fact that I would get nauseous and occasionally vomit.

I'm going to be seeing him in a few days, but I was wondering, for those of you with insulin resistance how do you manage it? I would like to go to my appointment with some ideas so my surgeon and I can come up with a game plan together.

I'm working on the same thing. I'm still taking the Metformin, although just lowering my dosage has helped.

I've increased my activity, started drinking diluted apple cider vinegar in the morning, and started a chromium supplement.

You have an endocrinologist? They should be managing your diabetes. If you're insulin resistant and it's poorly controlled even more so

I've heard of people drinking diluted apple cider vinegar. I've never tried it myself though. I've also never heard of taking chromium supplements. I may have to bring that up to my surgeon. Thank you!

I don't have an endocrinologist, nor do I actually have full-blown diabetes. My insulin resistance is being caused by PCOS.

Same here. Hyperinsulinemia and PCOS.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
