Purée days - how do you get enough protein?

Recommended Posts

I am so sick of sweet Protein Shakes. Looking for good ideas during Puree stage and beyond. I do add a scoop of unflavored Isopure to my Soups but I am afraid that is going to get old too.

I really like some of the Protein fortified Soups available on here, Bariatric Pal. I still use them to supplement my protein, 4 months out.

I ate buffalo chicken dip, ricotta bake, pimento cheese and yogurt. Google for recipes. Everything was already soft, so I didn't puree. I just chewed, and chewed.

Just to add to this

You could mix Protein Shakes with coffee, or PB2. And then they're not gonna be sweet, so much as coffee like or savory

Meaty Soups.

Meaty soups with egg whites pureed through them.

Protein additions are not rocket science.

all plans are different. on my plan, during purees we could have any meat except red meat and chicken breast. I ate ground turkey, ground chicken, and canned chicken, plus I could have eaten tuna. My plan also started purees on day 3.

Thanks.... I will try ground turkey next time I go to the store. 3 days... Weird. I had to wait 2 weeks for pureed food. (yesterday it started). Now that I can, I really don't care about eating.

I realize none of this is rocket science. Did you intend to be snarky? I am looking for help. If I can only eat about 1/4 c of anything - how does 3 or 4 times that quarter of a cup add up to the right amount of Protein for the day? My doc is asking for 90g of protein a day for me right now.

I added cheese to eggs, not TONS extra but extra and it was different. I did ricotta bake too, (baritastic recipe section, and get that app if you don't have it, it's great for tracking) I added Protein Powder, it was my saving grace. Try one that doesn't clump in hot stuff. Protein20 Water. I could have any meat I wanted as long as it was pureed, I made "gravy" with cornstarch and homemade Bone Broth (10 grams Protein per cup) it passes quick, even though it feels like forever

I found Bone Broth, making a gravy out of it is a great idea!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
