Hey yes great question, foods that seem to slide right through your new stomach and trigger little to no restriction. For me I also it tends to be higher calorie foods, so it's dangerous to be able to eat alot because you are essentially eating around your surgery or cancelling the effects of it.

@Tealael Thank you for explaining that, I have gained a wealth of information from this site...I love it! I know everyone reacts differently from surgery and each person has their own personal experience but I will definately be better informed and more prepared when it's my surgery time. I've already picked up a few items that I will need after surgery based on information that I've read on the site...ex: pill crusher and a few cheap 2 .oz hard plastic reusable cups. Thanks everyone and keep those topics coming. :1333_v_tone4:

Thank you to everyone who has posted on this thread, I am only 2 weeks on solid foods so it is too early for me to tell BUT I see many foods on this list (bars, cashews, HaloTop) that I regularly consumed prior to starting my preop diet that it strengthens my resolve to avoid these until I am much further along. Cashews and the "healthy" bars (Atkins, Premiere Protein and others) are like crack cocaine to me (even though I have never tried it:D and I lose all sense of Portion Control.

Now that i know what a slider food is, I would also have to say it's fruit for me as well.

Ice cream and popcorn is definitely a slider for me!
Over Christmas I made the mistake of having about 10 cashews - I was bloated and full until the next day. Couldn’t even sit down and have Christmas dinner with my family.
Protein Bars I still can’t handle 8 mo. post-op, 1/2 bar feels like bricks sitting in my pouch. I carry one in my purse at all times though just in case my sugar levels completely drop

So far, only smooth Soups, like Tomato or anything broth like, are sliders, oh, and yogurt too. I don't get that full sensation, I just feel satisfied after eating about a cup or so.

Ugh, I think I found a true slider food for me... ramen!

I liked ramen prior to surgery but post I refuse to eat Pasta (outside of Italy and Asia) so I make an all veggie version with eggs of course

So question everyone, are we staying away from sliders or just limiting them?

I have no off limits foods. If I tell myself I can't have something, that just means I'll want it more, self sabotaging! So I'll just make unhealthy sliders rare, and measured!

That looks good @Tealael

I've done authentic ramen restaurants a few times and that didn't slide. But it has been over a month or more, so maybe that has changed. What slid was instant ramen done as as cold salad, dressed with basically chinese chicken Salad Dressing. I crave that during the summer, so I think I will see if I can sub spiralized cucumbers for the noodles.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
