Hi everyone! I am only 11 days post op but I’m already so discouraged. I logically know I am still swollen and due to a longer hospital stay with continuous IV fluids running, I have more Water weight to lose. I also had adhesions they had to take down which gave me pretty significant pain and swelling also.

I lost 17 pounds during the 14 day liver shrinking Fluid diet. After surgery I was discharged home at a weight of 15 pounds higher than when I went in. I have finally lost the weight and after 11 days I am where I was upon arrival to the hospital. However, I should be down from there as well due to remaining on a strict liquid diet.< br />
I am hungry and depressed over the “lack of results” and remaining on a liquid diet. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. People post almost daily about why they are not losing weight immediately after surgery.

The best thing you can do right now is focus on healing. Do your best to meet your Fluid and Protein goals. Walk when you can. Rest when you need to. You just had major surgery so give your body the time it needs to recuperate.

Follow your plan and the weight loss will follow. If weighing yourself right now is discouraging, then do yourself a favor and don’t.

Best wishes.

Hi… Hang in there it does come off! Try to think of it that you just lost 15 pounds in 11 days. Try not to wear yourself for at least three days… Do it maybe twice a week if you have to. It will drive you crazy. Just stay on your program with Protein and water… You’ll see the scale really start to move.

I’m exactly where you are, I lost a total of 28lbs pre op. Then upon check out weigh in because of all the fluids extended stay. I gained all but 6lbs back.

I’m sitting at day 6 post I will not weigh in till tomorrow.

But I get what you’re saying totally

Thanks everyone! It is so easy to get discouraged when you are emotional also. I kept saying, oh not me, I won’t get emotional. Haha yes I did!

Things are better for weight loss but I have 2 things that are puzzling me.
1. Every time I drink Water or anything else, my esophagus and stomach spasm, it doesn’t hurt per se but it isn’t comfy.
2. How do you get enough Protein from food when you can’t eat much. I foresee needing Protein Drinks forever.

Try hot Water like Decaf tea. I could not drink cold water for a very long time for the same reason.

@kdjWItoSC We share the same surgery date: 6/13/2018. I stopped weighing myself after I noticed that I was getting different readings throughout the day.

I am having trouble getting enough Protein and fluids. My problem isn't keeping them down; I just can't motivate myself to eat or drink anything. Nothing smells or tastes good. My body isn't telling me to drink. I don't even notice any abdominal discomfort. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I had surgery. Nothing is tender. No pain whatsoever.

My increased need for sleep is what I notice the most. I sleep late and I take multiple naps.

The first month or so was a struggle. The hormonal changes, the surgery, the healing, the massive changes in diet. I had some days where I questioned my choice. Days where missing foods lead to some depressive feelings. And I'm not going to lie, I'm 3 months 12 days right now, and I've been through a butt load of stalls. My latest lasted 10 days... it was maddening. But, the depression and second guessing, faded away. The stall, broke. My weight... started dropping again. Trust the process, follow those instructions to the letter and understand that the struggle, is *so* worth it!
Stay strong.
You got this!

Ugh ^^THIS^^ I wish people would attempt to search or even just look at the forum for a few seconds. I get it's tough, and everyone wants personalized answers to their specific stall, but it all boils down to either folks aren't tracking and are not following their diets. Or their bodies are adjusting to the new normal and recalibrating itself, which can cause a stall. But overall... Stall *will* happen. As long as you are doing everything you are actually supposed to be doing, then you'll be fine.

Ok, I have to ask. Your callout said you had surgery in 2014. But, you keep saying you haven't had WLS yet. Which is it?

Are you consuming a minimum of 64 oz of Water a day? If not, you’re probably dehydrated. You need to set an alarm to go off every 15 mins to remind yourself to drink. Expecting your body to give you a signal is not an effective strategy.

Hydration post-op is your #1 priority, more than food or Vitamins. You have to focus on it so you don’t end up back in the hospital.

I'd suggest not weighing for the first month.

Actually, I am losing weight... about one-half to a pound per day. I'm just not weighing myself anymore because I want my focus to be on healing... taking in enough Protein and Fluid. Losing weight is not my concern now.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
