Wow, I'm banded =)

Congrats Lizzie and LindyLoo! I also had my surgery in May with Dr. Yau and adore him. Remember to follow the clinic's instructions and be patient with the process. It takes some time to get it - but it is well worth it!

Congrats you guys to newly banded. I will be celebrating my 1 year anniversary on Nov 24th!!! I am 30 pounds away from my goal and love the band. It is a life changing experience and it has been a very positive year. I have good days and bad days. I have a very tight fill right now and that is when you will truely feel the difference of your band. You think you can eat something fine until you start feeling a tight feeling in your chest and it hurts like heck.......you either wait it out with bulging eyes or go throw it up. It isn't technically like when you used to throw up it is a slimmy type of plug that is sitting on top of your band and not going down. The reason it is slimmy is because your fluids are trying to break it down but it doesn't always happen and to get it out you feel much better. This is what is called a PB progressive Burp.....sometimes you just burp it up sometimes you help it come up. I tried to eat fries yesterday and BAD IDEA!!! I had to come back to work and my co workers do not know I have the band and tried to just walk around and sip hot tea. It was a bad day but my own fault. The best thing about this band is before I ate a super size fry no problem then beat myself up inside that I should not have done that. Yesterday tried to do my old habit of having a bad day so eat comfert food............band made it so after three fries I had to stop and ended up throwing the fries in the trash...........Thank you band!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to you guys and keep on the support pages because they are so much help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vikki,

Someone told me that if you get something stuck you can sip pineapple juice and it will help break it down. So now I keep a couple of small cans around just in case. I haven't needed it yet but I'm still on liquid/mushies.

Lizzie - It's great to see you on the "other side". I'm glad you were able to work past your families issues. And congratulations on your weightloss so far. You are doing GREAT!!!

Diane - Thanks! Yes, trying to get past my parents ended up being MUCH more difficult than the surgery itself. It was an emotional road and I felt really alone not having my family's support but in the end once they knew they couldn't talk me out of it they were much better. They just want me to be happy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
