Losing weight is the last thing on my mind!

Recommended Posts

I'm just focusing on healing, getting stronger, and following the rules for my band as set out by my doctor. I'm amazed at some of the comments I've read elsewhere on the board where people are weighing themselves and feeling discouraged because they haven't lost yet! It makes me wonder if they understand how the band and the body, for that matter, actually work!

I'm not even weighing myself. Of course I'll be pleased if I've lost some weight when I see the doctor on Friday but I'm not going in expecting it. I had the same attitude about the pre-op diet. I apparently lost three pounds and I neither got excited or upset about it. It's not enough to really react to, since our weights can vary so much from one day to the next.

I dont' think of my band as a weightloss tool as much as a weight maintenance tool but maybe that's because I've lost weight so many times? I've got more of a wait-and-see attitude this time.

How about y'all? :(

I've made a promise to myself that I will only weigh myself once a week. Well, I kind of broke that promise today. I did get on the scale just to see and to my surprise I lost 7 pounds!! I am going to make myself wait until my appointment on the 14th for my next weigh in. I am mostly concentrating on healing and getting down as much liquids as possbile.

I noticed the same thing around on the board and I feel frustrated for them that they're not better read-up on the matter. I won't say, though, that I won't *hope* for some weight-loss just because I'm so antsy to get on with it. LOL I really liked Wendell's thread in Fills about how the band really works.

I'm bad for weighing myself daily so I really have to try to control myself. I did weigh myself after I flew home but I know that I probably still have extra Fluid on me from the IV and swelling. I'm going to TRY to weigh myself once a week from now on. Whenever I've dieted in the past I would weight myself easily 5 times a day. It becomes like an addiction for me.

I have tried to not focus so much on the scale and to just get myself healthy. Unfortunately when I see I am losing 1-2 lbs a day it is actually kind of fun to step on the scale. Once I'm done with liquids, I know it will stabalize, so I am going to hide it and only plan to weigh myself once a week.

It is so hard not to weigh yourself everyday. I know I am losing weight on my pre-op diet and had been weighing everyday but today I forgot because I was mad at one of the neighbor kids. I guess that is a good thing. Tomorrow's loss should be good as I am finally getting in all my Water.

I keep telling myself that the goal of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver and the weight loss is just a bonus but that is hard to do when my main goal in this process is to lose weight.

Ok, this is me, applauding you for having the RIGHT attitude. The first several weeks after banding IS for healing, and I am so proud of you for recognizing that and understanding that it APPLIES to you!

:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

You'll do great!!!!

hey longhorn,

in my opinion you have a great perspective on where you are supposed to be...

i also wonder when people weigh themselves every hour ...what they expect will happen.

i know when i weigh myself alot...i am not in a good place.

in fact mid way between my surgery and now...i started getting obesessed about weighing. i actually stopped losing weight because the more i focused on this...the more frustrated i became and the more i ate junk.

so i got rid of my scale and only weigh in 1-2 times a month. my weight started flying off since i focused on trying to eat healthy and exercise.

good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
