kpiekkola 0 Posted November 5, 2007 You do not currently need a passport to DRIVE over the border. I think it's 1/1/08 when that goes into effect. If you fly you do need a passport for everywhere now. I'm driving down on 11/23... I'm excited.
Griz Girl 0 Posted November 7, 2007 I just got back from Mexico on October 28th and all I needed was my driver's license. They said that they should be switching it passports for driving on 1/1/08. Good luck!!

LadyTrisha 0 Posted November 8, 2007 It should be clarified though that you DO need your passport and Alien Registration Card and License if you are NOT a U.S. Citizen. My British passport had expired and I had lost my green card so I had to get both replaced and must have them with me in order to come back into the U.S. when I go to Mexico this weekend for my consultation. I know I want to go to Mexico to have Dr. Ortiz install the lap band for me. My question is how do I broach the conversation with my husband that I want to be banded? He is usually very suportive of everything I do, It's not the money. I just know he will friek out. I have done a ton of research. Thanks for your feed back. ThinAgainJann 0 Posted November 29, 2007 I am looking for a fill doctor in the San Fran Bay area. (East Side) All the weight loss dr's here will not touch you if you have surgery in Mexico. HELP...HELP...Thanks, ThinAgainJann
Liz1531 3 Posted November 30, 2007 Hi Thin Again Jann. I too am in the same boat. Unfortunately my hubby wasn't very supportive and I kind of took the attitude of I'm doing it anyway. He met me at my best (after two years of losing about 65lbs). Anyhow, I got pregnant and gained it all back and then some. So he thought it was all baby weight and not a result of a lifetime of struggling with my weight. Anyhow, I'm glad I did it. I went to Dr. Ortiz and while I can't say anything about the man himself (I barely remember seeing his face as I was wheeled into the OR), I can say the surgery went off without incidence and I was released next day. I never even took a pain med. Good luck!

I have my citzenship certifcate will that work? According to this U.S. State Department site and this Department of Homeland Security site, passports will be required for land-based travel to Mexico in summer 2008 -- an actual date hasn't been determined yet. As of January 31, you will just have to present your ID (driver's license) and a birth or naturalization certificate.
