Strange cravings!

Recommended Posts

Oh boy, one year and some months out now. 95 pounds down and all of a sudden I have a craving for something I never even consumed before.

Coke? WTF? I have never drank Coke, never had a hard time giving up pop, but all of a sudden. THIS?

Perhaps it is the caffeine I am craving, big time sugar??? I don't even get this one.

Any one else have a strange cravings?

Lately I've been craving things that I never liked before. Hated eggrolls, 2 days ago I ate a whole one. Hated olives, at a jar of them last week. Hated diced tomatoes on top of things, now I eat them all the time. I'm not sure if my tastes are changing or what. I know I'm definately not pregnant!

Cravings? Hell yes! HATED pumkin flavored things...this year I can't seem to get enough; coffee, pie, etc.

I never was a fan of ice cream. Well...last weekend I had pumpkin ice cream! It's true!!!

I also get 'spur of the moment' cravings, too. Like in what i'd assume in pregnancy. Mushrooms - gotta have em NOW. Mexican - NOW.

Very strange!:(

Definately! I never liked sweets before, but now I eat small amounts of icecream & chocolate. It has worked the other way w/me too..I used to like wheat bread much better than regular, and now I hate the taste of wheat bread! I thought that was weird.

I was never a big fan of soda. I drank it, but that's about it... but hell, I was already down to caffeine free, sugar free... so it was really just like nastyw ater. ANYWAY, I went through a sort of random phase where I craved the CARBONATION. You know, when you chug a freshly opened can, and get that fizzy burn in your throat? I was craving that like you wouldn't believe. It went away.

Other new cravings - I used to not eat pig meat, now I enjoy the taste of bacon. I don't crave it now, but I used to.

I'm not a chocolate fan, but I crave chocolate chip Cookies. That's probably become one of my two largest vices as a bandster - Cookies, which I could take or leave pre-op - and key lime pie, which I've always enjoyed.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
