Liquid intake post op day 8 gastric sleeve..

Recommended Posts

I could be wrong, but it seems the limiting factor for me at least is the esophageal spasm. (My tum also has this new trick of trying to burp while I'm swallowing, which makes matters worse.)

Warm liquids work better for me--in fact, I tend to forget and go too fast! But I'm not doing as well as you are when it comes to just Water. Maybe try changing up your Clear Liquids?

Good luck--they did warn us this was hard work, they were just vague about it!

I am on day 10 post op... I think you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. I know personally I can’t get nearly as much liquid as they tell me to in. My dietitian even told me that I need to wake up early to start sipping to be able to get in enough liquids but in reality when you’re home things don’t always work out like that. my surgeon told me when I was leaving that if you get more than five or six Fluid ounces in an hour you stretch out your stomach and it will make you sick. What helped me to be able to get more ounces in the hour and not every 15 minutes was to change my cups or what I was drinking out of. I find when I drink out of the Nutrisystem cups I can drink more.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
