I'm so sorry to hear this. I haven't had my veg surgery yet, (July 30th), but I have done a lot of reading on this site & I believe what you are going through is extremely common. I have had 2 cosmetic surgeries (nose & breasts) and I can tell you, I regretted it & cried like a baby for several days afterwards. Could sleep or breathe for days with nose surgery & could barely walk or go to the bathroom myself after breast surgery. But after about 1 week, I felt that there was hope I would be normal again. It took about 1 month for me to feel ok after each surgery. I'm guessing the same thing with bariatric surgery.

Search post op diet on this site and there are options for post op diet, such as strained Soups, Jello & sugar free pudding. Of course check with your Dr to make sure those things are ok.

Hopefully you have someone at home helping you. But there is a lot of support here and on other message boards too. I'll pray for you & pls keep us updated.

Hang in there!! I know this always sounds so cliché but better times will come. I am 5 years out and it took me forever to get over the smells. I always loved garlic before my RNY afterwards when he cooked with it I couldn't stand to smell or eat it. Same with onions. I have always had a great sense of smell but after my RNY it is SUPER CHARGED, right along with my taste. I have food rituals (not as bad now as before) I find something that I liked I will eat it until I can't stand it. Then I will be onto the next thing. Eat that for awhile ETC. I believe that our weight loss surgery isn't just to take care of our bodies or whole self is changed. I am so amazed still at the small amounts it gtakes to get full!! As I said above it will get better. Hang in there.

Thank you so much for the reply. I feel like it will be forever before I can eat something I can chew and Tate’s good. This is much harder then I thought. Again thank you so much

Hang in there and try to have patience. It gets better:)

My surgeon said at our presurg conference that at least once a month someone bursts into tears the day after their surgery and regrets it. But at six months out....almost everyone will say they made the right choice...even the folks who were unhappy right after.

Time helps:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
