Morning fill restriction only

Recommended Posts

Help, Does anyone else feel that they are more restricted in the morning than in the evening? I was banded on 8-14-07 and got my second fill on Oct. 17th. Since the second fill, I have had a lot of restriction but only in morning, I can't really eat anything but I can drink without a problem. By evening I can eat just about anything I want and quite a bit of it if I want to. I go in for another fill this Wed. and I'm not sure if I need it or not. Seems like I'm banded in the am but not in the pm.....Crazy huh?? :)

My doctor said that we are more dehydrated in the morning and that is why we feel more restricted then but as we hydrate as the day goes on, the tissues around the band relax a little.

I'm still in the "no appetite" mode after surgery so I can't speak from experience yet.

This is completely normal. What you want to consider is how much you actually are eating and are you losing? If you are losing 1-2 lbs per week and still eating normal at night consider yourself lucky. You may want a small fill if need be.

Thanks girls, I thought I was going crazy. I was thinking about only getting a "half of a fill" this time anyway since I am restricted some. I have lost 6 lbs since my last Dr. visit, which is what he wanted, so I guess I'm on track. Next question, how do we really know when we hit our sweet spot?

do a search for "sweet spot," there are simply loads of threads out there about that very subject. There are probably as many threads as there are answers to that question. It seems to be a different feeling for each person. I guess the basic answer is if you don't feel hungry for a few hours after a meal, you aren't PBing unless it's an error you made (too big a bite, not chewing well enough, etc) and you are losing well at 1-2lbs per week, you're there. Most folks report it's at least three to four fills to get there.

Some docs and nutritionists (nuts) say it's all about exactly how much food you can eat at a time, some say it's more about the feeling of fullness and how the satiety lasts in conjunction with the weight loss.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
