Dumping is REAL

Recommended Posts

Oh my word!! I had the revision from sleeve to RNY on 6/6. I had some Peanut Butter chocolate milkshake today. Just a 1/4 of a small sonic cup. I have been so ill!! Do not eat sugar! I don’t know if I ever will again after today. Headache and nausea is horrible.

Also, how long were you off work after RNY. My revision was because of a bad stricture/stenosis. I lost 90lbs with the sleeve. I am 180 now but my doctor said I did not have a choice but to get a revision because my stomach was so bad. RNY is not what I wanted but the GERD and nausea were awful. Will I lose much more?

Sitting here feeling like I’m going to barf. large.2CD4648E-AF39-4854-8A98-0DBBE9B13C84.jpeg.58f9197abfd2f1df28939c9c91f4129a.jpeggallery_50176_14781_1381434579_16320.jpg

Sorry you’ve experienced dumping, especially right after surgery. Were you educated (pre-op) on dumping, which impacts 30% of RNY patients? You may need to stay away from sugar for a longtime, more than 1-2 years, if not forever.

Does your surgeon’s post-op plan allow milkshakes 2 weeks after gastric bypass or did you just give into temptation? If the latter, you need to set yourself up for success by staying away from fast food places and removing trigger foods from your pantry and fridge. And if you didn’t receive clear nutritional guidance then you should contact your bariatric center for specifics on what you can eat when, post-RNY. Good luck!

I was off work (desk job) for 2 weeks after Mini Gastric Bypass. I will be having revision surgery soon (RNY) and my surgeon said I should expect to be off work for 2-3 weeks. How long were you told?

We gotta make sure to stick to our doctor’s plan so we don’t get ill like that.

I accidentally took a bite of my fish tonight and there was sweet potato mash on it (came with meal) & I spat it out cause it was overly sweet tasting. I am afraid of dumping and am trying to limit my sugar as much as I can and am choosing not to consume sugar at all if I can help it.

I too am a sleeve to bypass revision & was informed of dumping. I am one of those whom hope I get it as a reminder to not make bad choices.

i took off only 3 weeks after my rny

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
