Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

Recommended Posts

I’ve learned to just not make things that I can eat no issue. I know I do just fine with sautéed veggies so I went to costco and bought green Beans and mushrooms. By storing them correctly the green beans keep really well. So I eat that 2x a day, and in the next week I’ll just steam the rest with some carrots (probably Sunday) with the other chicken sitting above them, cooking. And the kids and my husband will finish them up. I love making different foods but I also know I can’t eat that much so I store what I can (freezing individual portions to pop through the microwave or put through the oven at work to heat)

I’ve had a similar issue with leftovers after I get full off something. I can go back for more later. The thought of it will turn my stomach. It makes meal prep super tricky. I can eat off the same stuff for a few days. I use to be able to do that no problem. Not post surgery.

Omg that is Soooo True!!! You hit the nail on the head!!! I go through elaborate rituals to cook and then... I’m so done!!! I want nada to do with it!!! Shame 😕. I wind up throwing it in my ever growing Freezer pile.

Ellie stop cooking, eat off your freezer stock for a while. It gives you a break from the cooking too.

Yes Ma’am, looks like it’s time to take a break from it all. Just think of us... months ago we were care free, big and fluffy, and worried not of such things as this. Now here we are, united in the struggle to survive and thrive, and the truth is that there is no one size fits all, and the only thing normal is that nothing is normal and we’ve each gotta figure out how to make it work...

i think I’m becoming better T not being a scale Slave anymore. Saw a pound appear and did not flinch anymore... I know, I could be one thing in the morning and by evening something else... trying to focus on other areas of my life too, Kids, work, hubby, mom, huge pile of To Do’s that have accumulated....it’s part of the healing process I think, learning how to function and get stuff taken care of.

I know what you mean. I’m focusing on other things as well. It’s nice though I have more energy! I actually killed it at work today. Usually I struggle to get my list done and keep a good load time. Something slips and I end up choosing my 3.5 load time (work thing) today it was 2.4 load!! Which is amazing!! ;) kept all my work stats up (cdot at 95%, load time low, etc) I busted through a 15 pie order and still managed to get prp done while keeping up with dishes. Pits clean, and makeline stocked (I know non of that makes sense to any of you unless you work for dominos lol)

I still step on the scale each morning.

I like trying new foods and learning what I can and can’t have. I’m excited to keep going forward 😋 hoping to get back on track at work for franchising once I franchise I can step back and have 100k/year coming in while I build my homestead (dreams!)

Hopefully the obsessed with my weight thing will fade.

Oh, I’m standing every day! Sometimes morning, after workout and night lolol. I stand a ton, I want to see how things affect my fluctuations but I’ve learned not to let it get to me as much lol

thats so awesome your work energy is back and you have the stats to show for it!!! Coupled with a lighter you, sounds like a workout in itself all you have to do! Way to go!

So I went to a trial membership at 9round fitness. I highly recommend it!! They put me with a trainer, he adjusted the work out to fit my skill level. Made it through the whole thing!! It was a full body workout, strength and cardio both incorporated. It’s only 30 minutes. I couldn’t do a push-up or a sit up so he made it work. It was awesome.

And the trainer isn’t extra on top of the membership. It’s included 😍😍 unlimited access and month to month!!

9round was one of my favorite fitness places when I lived on the SC side of Charlotte. Plus the cost was economical. I moved to the Southwest side of Charlotte and the price is quite a bit more and hard to justify. I do have a monthly subscription to Planet Fitness and their Crossfit class is pretty awesome and almost as good as 9round.

I lost huge inches with 9round in a short time. Good luck with them.

Sounds like a stall. They’re normal but irritating. Make sure (if you’re cleared) you’re working out, your eating clean, getting enough Protein, Fiber, calories etcZ

Been gone for a while. My update is this: 2.5 months post-op. 44 lbs down since surgery. Promotion at work (from vice principal to principal of a K-12 private school).

Here’s the issue: paralyzing headaches near the back of my head. All the time. Every day. Went to a neurologist and she said it’s a culmination of pressure from work and pressure on my body. I did all the tests. It’s a tension headache.
I got prescribed a muscle relaxant and an antidepressant. For personal reasons, I refused to take the antidepressant. I’m doing much better with the other medication. Going to the gym 4x a week. I’m just struggling at work, especially since most of my subordinates think I’m too young to be principal (I’m at least 20 years younger than both assistant principals).

I just needed to vent, and this seems like the safest place to do it. I don’t do comfort food anymore, soooo.... yeah.

Congrats on the weight loss and the promotion!! As for the headaches I’m no doctor, but maybe something you are eating is causing it. Some people can’t handle things like nightshades for example. Try the whole 30 it’s an elimination diet perfect for wls patients, and it can help you see if a specific food is causing your head aches.

Thank you, Megan! Getting a response lifted my spirit so much!

I already checked, all my bloodwork and other tests are normal. It’s just physical pressure being post op (and I’m not a big eater... one sit-down meal and the rest is just Snacks as I go), and psychological pressure of having all those responsibilities that I once thought were a luxury. I am looking into Whole 30, at least to force myself to eat more nutritious food. Thank you for the recommendation.

Have a great day!

Congratulations hon!!!! Alas, To him whom much is given, much is indeed required! It’s hard to have it all, but you will learn. Wondering if your headaches are dehydrated related. Maybe try upping the Water?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
