Anyone else have problems eating eggs?

Recommended Posts

I wonder if any other sleevers have issues eating eggs. This is the third time I have tried eating eggs with the same result - pain!!! I love eggs so really hoped I would be able to eat them since its a major Protein source. When I start to eat them it gives an immediate fullness in my throat and feels like its stuck in my chest and then the pain starts. I have no idea why since they are soft cooked. I wondered if anyone else experiences the same with eggs or if this is just me?

Oh I do... but only because they taste disgusting! The downfalls of being a Supertaster!

Do you get the same issue with eggs cooked in a different way?

Don't get too concerned yet, you're not quite 4 weeks out. You may just need a little more time. Maybe try just egg whites since they're a bit "slipperier" than the yolks.

I'm actually in the hospital right now waiting to be discharged and we had a diet meeting and the dietician said not to eat eggs for awhile because they will get stuck in your throat.

Really? Wow. Well my instruction leaflet said I could eat soft cooked eggs in the pureed stage which I am in. But yes, they REALLY feel as though they are stuck in your throat/upper chest but not only that, it causes pain. Thanks for sharing

Oh my gosh yes for WEEKS I kept trying eggs various ways because it was soft and I freaking like eggs! I stopped having as many issues around week 8 but I’m 7 months post op now and still occasionally will make eggs and have to toss them due to over sensitive taste buds or texture bothering me

Yes! The first time I tried one (soft scrambled) it gave me so much pain I couldn't eat anything else the rest of the day. It's gotten better since then but they can still cause pain.

I waited until 4 weeks out and then ate scrambled eggs. If they are stuck in your throat, you may be taking too big of a bite or eating too fast. In the beginning, I kept my bites as small as an aspirin and took 30 minutes to totally chew each bite into a liquid stage and then set my fork down before the next bite. Now 2 1/2 months out I have no issues. Best of luck to you.

30 minutes per bite! Wow, you're an overachiever! ;)

eggs were ok for me at 8 weeks, although I can still feel quite nauseated when I eat them. Fish is the easiest Protein for me to keep down. Poultry is still a no go and I haven't even tried any red meat.

I didnt have issues with eggs, but I was also extremely conservative. I made soft runny scrambled eggs, with a decent amount of ketchup. And I would eat EXTREMELY small bites, approximately 2 minutes between bites. Taking me close to 40 minutes to eat around half an egg.

I did this probably 3-4 times then realized it was too damn tedious eating eggs, so I stopped for a while.

At around 6-8 weeks postop I was eating 3 fried eggs no problem.

Yes! When I went to puréed food that was the first thing I wanted. Scrambled eggs. I too felt like they got stuck. I am 2 months out and still have issues with eggs. I can eat them over easy cooked in a little extra virgin olive oil only every once in a while. Hoping it gets better.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
