I was cleared for alcohol after my 3 month appointment, but I waited until 4 months post op to try. I tried at home. I did sugar free red bull and plain vodka. The red bull can even says "light carbonation" and it didn't bother me in the slightest. I drank very slowly. You can do sugar free juices and hard alcohol though. Honestly, no matter what you have for the alcohol part, it will have calories, so if you'd rather do wine...
The important part is to make it a special treat, and not a regular occurrence. Also, I make sure to cut back on my calories for the day to compensate.
My birthday celebration will be my special treat! [emoji4]

I had the sleeve and now I have the bypass. First time around I drank 3 months post op. I Avoided beer, and any carbonated beverages like the PLAGUE. that s h i t HURTS! So no vodka, soda, or rum and coke.

I used to drink vodka, with sugar free cranberry juice ( brought some to the bar in a flask LOL), vodka Water with lemon and lime, and my favorite was white wine. Also, any clear liquor straight or on the rocks. Now, after the bypass my surgeon said I should again wait 3 months, but she strongly suggests a year to not inhibit weight loss. Ugh, I do miss my drinks!! Good luck, and keep us posted on what you decide and how it effects your sleeve.

Be SUPER careful! You will get drunk at the drop of a hat!!! No joke! It doesn't even take one gin and tonic and I'm completely toasted.

I can drink a couple of beers in an evening, but cannot mix it with food in the slightest bit. Very rarely do I drink, but to know I can go out to a social scene and have a cocktail or beer is nice. I just drink it much slower than I used to.

Make sure you are with someone you trust. Apparently when that part of our stomach was removed the enzyme that digests half the alcohol went into the garbage with our stomachs. Normal stomachs "digest" half, we get the full %. As my nutrionist said, you are a cheap date now, one drink, and you'll be sloshing around.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
