WHAT THE HECK did I do

Recommended Posts

I am having a hard time here, I had my RNY in July of 2013. I had very good results but due to my adding some carbs back into my diet and (not saying iit is his fault) but I have a bad obsession with lightly salted Barbque chips. I have never been a chip eater before but Lordy Lord I am making for it. Bad me!! So now my remission of diabetes is back :( :( My Dr put me back on Metformin 500mg 2 times a day. I can gladly say theyt have worked. My Blood Sugar went from 199 to 104 today. I really don't eat many carbs but in the last 3 months I have been eating some carbs, I don't eat many like 1 slice of a whole grain bread. Cut in half with 1 slice of chopped ham and 1 slice of cheese. That is the carbs but them DARN chips. The sad thing is I am so weak, I tell him that I don't want him to buy any more but...he does and when I say just pick up a bag he comes home with 3. OK I'm done whinning!! Another problem is I stopped walking consistanly. I went from 4 times a week to 1 or 2 times. I am telling you folks the exercise is so very important!!! That I feel is the true reason my blood sugar started climbing. But I am back at it, going strong!! Sorry for bending your ears. Have a GREAT week! And do you!!

Hi there and it is great to hear from you about this.

I agree with sosewsue - find a replacement. For EVERY time this temptation calls. I have found some Salt and vinegar chickpea crisps, and some baked beetroot crisps - nice enough. Not as good as potato crisps but meet the same crunch, salt, flavour burst. So they head off the internal yelling!!

Your stats - are they up to date? No weight regain? If so, then this is a great time to arrest this new addiction! And if you have had regain x then it is even more important!

Remember the thrill of this journey first tine through? That willpower is still there, my friend...

I feel it when I sense someone else is hurting. Don't apologize for expressing heartfelt emotions. Those darn chips may seem like a trivial thing, but your craving for them is real.

What was your last A1C? Are you a "pre-diabetic" (my endocrinologist hates this word; he says you are either a diabetic or you are not. Sort of like pregnancy.) Anyway, your A1C is a snapshot of your blood glucose for a period of approximately 3 months. Having a random high glucose result doesn't really say much. Kindly explain what you mean by your diabetes returning. Is your assessment based on one lab result?

Taking Metformin is not a bad thing. 500mg 2x/day is the standard dose, too. I take Metformin as well and I am NOT a diabetic. Taking Metformin does not mean you are a diabetic either -- even though that's what others may wrongly assume.

Do you crave one particular brand of chips? I feel sorry for your enabler husband. He means well, I'm sure. When husbands do things like this, it reminds me of a male penguin who searches the entire beach for the perfect pebble for his mate. Those chips are your husband giving you love pebbles. Unfortunately, you don't need three pebbles and probably not even one!

Have you considered individual snack-size bags instead of the Super, Super Family-Size ones?

You are not a whiner. Your words have value. Again, don't apologize. This forum won't help you if your brain keeps telling you that you are the only person with this "problem".

Hi Peeps, Thank you all for reading and understanding the real part of Journey is learning to find something to take the place of a BAD food (I know there are no BAD foods). Yes my stats are true only now I stay between 125 and 129 give or take a few pounds!! I was on 100units Of Insulin plus 500 metformin 2 times a day before my surgery. I was off all of that for almost 5 years. My last A1C was 7.5 down from 7.9 prior to this last A1C. Yes I do have my drug of chips. They are Lightly salted Lays BBQ chips. Yum Yum NO NO don't think about them!! I appreciate all of the suggestions. This is really hard to go back on the Metforman. After not taking anything for my diabetes. This A1C is the last 6 months. So I became aware like Jan 2018 and the last one June 2018. I guess it is just my pride that is hurt!! May I ask you Missouri Lee why are you on Metformin? Have a great dayh

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
