Surgery set for Nov 23rd!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

After a year and a half of researching the procedure, 2 seminars, 8 months or so of "lurking" here, my fiance and I are finally prepared! We have been approved for surgery, got our funds and are very excited!

Nov 23rd. Dr Aceves, Mexicali, Mexico. Self-pay.

I know there are lots of you who've gone to Dr Aceves. If you'd like to share advice, experiences - I'd love to hear from you!!! :)

I am scared, thankful, excited, blessed...

we are going to do low carb. we know this works because we've done the Atkins for 4 months this time last year and i lost 25, my fiance, 50. (i hate that men lose more! grrr...)

my list is long of things to accomplish today. including buying a scale! :)

I will definitely keep everyone posted. This forum is heaven sent, really. I am on here everyday for 2-3 hours at a time.

There are a handful of people here that have gone to Dr Aceves. WasABubbleButt got banded by him and is quite knowledgable.

Good luck!!!!!

Hey Jenny,

I am getting the J&J band. Simply because its what we can afford. Although it is new to the US, no stats on erosion and slips, I agree with Wasa - J&J is a great company that stand behind their products. I havent read any negative posts here about it either.

Congrats you two on getting banded! It's the best decision I have ever made. Dr. A is a gem, you'll love him. The quality of care is great.

But the surgery is the easy part, the rest is when it gets tough. But you can do it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
