Hey everyone...this is my first post! I'm in my 4 month pre-op program for Insurance, and suegery will be sometime in the late fall! Would love to know your favorite types of 'clear' Protein Drinks? Docs say I should start experimenting and finding one I like now so it's easy to have ready post-op. I tried the Isopure Lemon Tea and Grape flavors today, and they were bitter and had to get watered down. Thanks in advance! :)

Why are you only interested in clear Protein Drinks? Are the non-clear variety of Protein drinks all chalky and too hard for you to keep down? I'm pretty sensitive to taste and texture, myself. vanilla, for example, isn't consistent in taste. Some brands of vanilla are downright horrible. And strawberry ALWAYS has an aftertaste for me. And I'm not much for chocolate. Coconut goat whey was good BEFORE surgery but AFTER surgery ... nothing tastes good, let alone the same.

I would have enjoyed a clear Protein Drink flavored with peach. Do the clear drinks taste like flavored water or do they have a thick consistency... sort of like those drinks required for glucose tolerance tests during pregnancy (if you can relate to this example)?

Peach Jell-O is the only Jell-O I can tolerate.

Let us know what you try and eventually like.

I can tolerate the milky types and other drinks just fine, but my doctor suggested I find a ‘clear’ one now so it’s easier after surgery when you can only have Clear Liquids for awhile.

I’ve tried the premier raspberry and it’s pretty good, but just a bit too ‘fake sweet’ if you know what I mean.

I also tried the Isopure brand of tea and grape flavors, but yuck. Both were so bitter and had a weird smell to them. I think it’s the whey isolate they use.

Loved the Premier Protein waters pre-surgery...hate them post surgery (too sweet). I've transitioned to the Protein20 drinks and find them more tolerable than others I've tried post-surgery.

I found that the clear Protein drinks II liked pre-op were no longer palatable to me post-op. This is not uncommon, that your taste buds change after bariatric surgery. Sometimes it is a temporary thing but sometimes not. My advice is to not stock up on too many protein products ahead of time; instead, wait until after WLS to taste test RTD (ready to drink) Protein Shakes and powders.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
