I've been using Patch MD Patches since before my surgery. I just had my 3 month check up yesterday. And yes, for the most part, they work. The 1 Vitamin that I'm still having issues with, even with the patch, weekly doses as well as daily chewables, is Vitamin D. I'm deficient (Tested at 19, minimum was listed as 30). So, every other tested level was within the "good" ranges, just that Vitamin D was low. I'm currently using the following vitamins:

  • Patch MD Multivitamin Plus - Daily
  • Patch MD B12 Engergy Plus - Daily
  • Patch MD Vitamin D3 - Daily
  • Essential Stacks Vitamin D3 K2 "Sunshine Fuel" - Daily
  • Biotin - Daily
  • 50,000 IU Vitamin D2 - Once a week

I've been cleared to stop everything else since my levels were good.

So, for my situation, these patches have covered all but 1 of my required vitamin needs. I'm placing them on the outside of my shoulders, alternating each day.

I would have liked to have some PatchMD information to go along with this review/post, but PatchMD refuses to talk to me, I've been reaching out to them every few weeks for several months and I've gotten everything from zero replies to told that management was going to reply (they never do), to that group is new, that group was on vacation, etc etc. (I was actually banned from their Facebook page for some reason that they couldn't properly explain other than, "it must have been the new hire")

All excuses, zero follow through.

So Bottom Line. The patches do seem to work well enough, not as completely as they advertise, but well enough to justify continued use. PatchMD Customer support however... sucks.

Hey Matt, I’m sure you’re all over the Vitamin d issue but just wanted to give you my insight. I’m on a once a month vitamin d capsule. In Australia it’s not for sale over the counter, you need a script and then the chemist has to compound it for you. It’s been great for me.

The 50,000 IU Vitamin D is a prescription, This review is about the Patches, and I wanted to make sure I was clear that even with 2 patches that have Vitamin D in it, plus the chewables and the prescription, I'm still deficient, so the patch is NOT providing the Vitamin D levels they report. But, everything else is good.

Yes I understand that it was a review of the patch. Just giving my insight into getting Vitamin D up in general, since the patch isn’t doing a good job on that. It’s a tricky Vitamin and there have been studies showing a correlation between vitamin d deficiencies and obesity. I’m think a lot of people struggle with getting this particular vitamin up and it’s an important one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
