I'm going through my closet for the annual switch from summer clothes to fall/winter clothes. I have a HUGE pile of spring and summer clothes that I plan on NEVER wearing again because they will be too big. I feel so positive about my life change that I just want to give them all away. Has anyone else done this yet?

I am scheduled for the 15th of this month and I threw out all my big summer clothes. I feel like why would I even be going through this if I am of the mindset that I am going to be the same size next summer. I think that you are doing the right thing. It felt so good to get rid of all of that stuff and I am excited about getting new smaller things next season. : )

Hey! I say get rid of 'em!!! That's a very positive step. I'm doing the very same thing only I'm posting a lot of my summer and lightweight stuff on eBay. I'll likely be doing the same thing with my winter clothing when the warmer weather rolls in next year. My Dad is actually going to take me out and buy me a whole new wardrobe after I hit my goal weight. Woohoo!!!!!

I've been through this before just four years ago when I lost 70 pounds. I gave my fat clothes to my sister who was also losing weight but was a few sizes above me. When I gained the weight back, I had to ask for my clothes back (she had gained her weight back, too! :()

I don't think it's wrong to give them away but I don't believe that the act of giving them away in any way prevents one from regaining the weight, as Dr. Phil preaches. I fought every pound of that regain by continuing to diet and exercise but it didn't work. It was quite painful to have to buy clothes in larger sizes again.

Anyway, I really believe that I won't regain the weight this time but I don't know if I'll give them away just yet. First, it's kind of fun to actually try them on and see how they don't fit! :) Also, there are some things that I really like and might still be able to wear or alter to fit. And finally, I will probably be a slow loser and some of those things might just fit in the spring. I'm not in any hurry -- time will tell.

Yes, yes! I would say get rid of them. Once I have my surgery, I plan on going through my clothes and getting rid of things that'll never see the light of day on MY body again!

We have a clothing swap at the monthly support group here in Peoria. Everyone brings in the clothes that they have outgrown and can pick out new ones in the size they currently are. It is really nice because in some cases you are changing sizes so quickly no one can afford that.

I am giving mine away, I want them all out of my sight. I am bound and determined this is going to work and I will not see size 26 ever again. LOL

Longhorn been there with you and done all of that. I know how you feel about it, but this will truly be the answer you have been searching for I am just sure of it.

Renee:

I had the pleasure of going through my double closet this weekend. I ended up with five cartons of clothing that I brought to Salvation Army store. In addition, I gave my sister about three cartons of clothes.

I've lost 81 and I'm never going back to size 26/28 again!

Get rid of it, but please donate it.

Take care and congratulations.

Sue

Kristin! I love the idea of bringing your clothes to your support group meetings. What a fantastic idea!!! I've got some really beautiful clothes that I would love to see someone wear that's already lost a bunch of weight. What a great, great, GREAT thing to do!!

I did throw most of my clothes out before surgery. I am staying positive about the loss.

I spoke to the support group last month about the swap, we may start it soon, we will talk about it tonight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
