Vomiting and pregnancy

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if it is OK to vomit from morning sickness or any other stomacha ailment? I am worried about this. We are trying to get pregnant and I am curious.:help:

Meltini, I don't know about yours but my doctor told me to not to get pregnant for 18 months after surgery to give the band time to settle in properly.

Yeah, my doc told me to put a hold on anything baby related for at least 2 years. If and when I did get pregnant, she said that nausea should be treated aggressivly....I guess with a prescription, sort of like the script I got after being banded, knocked out nausea. Check with your doc about their opinions on pregnancy, morning sickness, and the band.....

Thanks for the info! I will talk to my surgeon to clarify. My OB doctor did talk about agressively controlling nausea with a prescription also.

Meltini-I can only speak from my experiences but maybe they will help. I am 19 weeks pregnant and tomorrow is my one year bandiversary. To say it has been an amazing year for me would be an understatement.

When I started my lb journey, one goal in mind was to have a family and I was not going to do that unless my health was in line. I wanted to have a healthy pregnancy and be here for my kids. I was very open with my surgeon about my desire to get pregnant within the next year and if that would be an option for us. He said absolutely and was very supportive. All surgeons are different on this so check with yours first.

While I wanted to get pregnant soon, I wouldn't do it unless I had reached a goal that I had set for myself. My doctor told me to not set myself up for disappoint because my goal was very high and it is rarely seen with lapband patients. I wanted to lose 100 lbs. by July 2007 and I was banded in November 2006. I knew that I could accomplish it and worked hard to get there. I reached the 100 lb. mark by Memorial Day. Even though I had reached that first goal, dh and I decided to wait to start trying for a baby until July anyway. When we got ready, I talked to my surgeon (who was ecstatic about my progress) and he said to go for it. My health was perfect and with the 100 lbs. less that I was carrying around, I would have a smoother pregnancy.

Dh and I started trying the first of July and got pregnant right off the bat...much to our surprise! I did have small unfill (.5 cc) but no more than that was necessary.

I did experience some morning sickness with vomiting but not much. My band is just fine. Vomiting is not something they want bandsters to do however. If I would have had a more of a problem with it, I would have went to them for some anti-nausea meds but since it wasn't bad, I didn't.

For me so far, everything is going great! Dh and I couldn't be happier about our little bundle of joy coming in April and I am feeling great! I wish you much luck in your journey to healthier you and with adding to your family. There are other pregnant bandsters here and we have a thread going where we discuss how everything is going. Check it out: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/pregnant-banded-come-join-me-37874/

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and I will help if I can!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
