Is anyone else getting confused about phases.. I was told I could eat mushroom Soup at the hospital, but I read the papers and it says those ain't until phase 2.. I'm slowly switching into puree now. But I don't even really know what phase 2 fully allows..

Sleeved 6/5/18

There seems to be a variety of pre op / post op diet phases, best follow the one provided by your surgeon/nutritionist, which I assume is what you are referring to when you mention papers?

What exactly do the papers say, is there a clear progress through the stages? Giving examples of what can be eaten at each stage?

If you are unsure, you could probably attach a copy of papers to a post in on the forum, and some of the more experienced could help, or you could contact your surgeon/nutritionist for clear instructions, which is probably the way to go. If the instructions are unclear you will probably get a variety of answers here.

My progression looked like this:

1. Clear Liquids (during hospital stay) which included popsicles, broth, diluted 100% juice, and Jello.

2. Full liquids (1 week) which included strained creamed Soups, Protein supplements, kefir, skim milk, ect.

3. Purred Foods (1 week)

4. Soft Foods (1 week)

5. Full Diet, minus all the things you should avoid for life.

My paperwork is the list of phases and what each one is allowed. And it came from my surgeon. And then at the hospital they allowed the Soup but it wasn't on the list until phase 2.. I'll attach the phase 2 and phase 3 that I saved from the website they gave me

Sleeve patients always have an extra week of liquids because their staple line is larger, and more of an area to heal.

Are you not a sleever? I got to have eggs last night and they worked out, just had some for lunch with my niece and nephew and they didn't sit well.. also noticing I'm not a fan of heat at the moment. Hopefully that will change.. and the 26th can't get here fast enough, I'm ready to go swimming hahaha

Nope, I had RNY. I hope that the heat wave breaks as well! We have heat index of 110 degrees yesterday. Doesn't matter how much you lose, 110 degrees sucks at any weight!

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass. RNY is just a "nickname" of sorts.

Just like the sleeve is more properly on here Laproscopical Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy but most people say. sleeve or VSG. The y in Roux en Y. is because the 2 rerouted segments of the small intestines kind of resemble that letter. And sometimes we bypasses well technically I'm only a future one, call ourselves pouchers or kangaroos in defence to our rearrangement. That said, we all love each othet, no matter the rearrangement, we all are members in,the same Bariatric Scheme of things. Are you a little less confused?

I’m a sleever. My team recommended clear liquids for the 1st week plus coffee, all liquids for week 2, and if you are tolerating well you move onto the purée/mushy phase for the next 4 weeks. After that, if you are tolerating everything move to your forever foods.

They use this as a standard, but you see your surgeon and nutritionist at the 4 week mark to check all is ok and to check in on anything you’re curious about.

While my insurance paid most of the procedure, it’s a $4k our of pocket co payment as well. For this you get all follow up appointments with the surgeon, nutritionist and therapist covered for the first year. They do it this way so their patients aren’t discouraged, by cost, for any concerns you may have post. Surgery. They also offer a phone service if you can’t get an appointment quickly.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
