I have finally decided after speaking with my Surgical PA to transition back to plant based diet at 7months post op!

Super excited

I will begin as an ovo-lacto-pescatarian then see how far towards vegan I will get. Probably not far as I didn't really love it the first time I was vegan.

Also I'm going to get all of my Protein needs from whole foods for now as I have returned all of my premier shakes to Sam's club today. Anyone else transitioning?

Good luck!

Just my experience from having ex's and friends with various diets over the years. On a scale, pescaterian is easy peasy, tons of options and lots of good Protein sources. Vegan is tough, eating out is hard, having someone cook for you is hard, convenience food is hard. On top of that plant based protein isn't as dense, so it can be hard to get enough without supplementing. When I became intolerant to whey protein I tried out various vegan Protein Drinks, powders and bars, and found nothing that was palatable, but YMMV. Vegetarian is somewhere in the middle, mostly with more limited restaurant choices.

But I'm sure you know all this having done plants based in the past :)

I'm considering giving up my Protein Bar habit...real food is smarter this far out.

I still want to keep caramel Premier Protein around because I love it in my coffee in the morning. I only drink about half a shake a day, so it's not a huge part of my diet.

I lean heavily in the veggie protien direction. I eat a lot of vegan meat substitute...soy and mycoprotien. I eat a lot of Beans and mushrooms and whole grain goodness. Pea protien with Brown rice protien is my go-to for adding Protein to baked goods and Soups. Never met a bowl of fancy oatmeal I didn't like...or a bowl of refried beans with sexy toppings. Yum. And...ya know...some vegetarian chili dumped on a baked potato is a fine thing:)

Gotta say, I'm a sucker for protein muffins. Mostly, I make my own with oats, pea and brown rice protien powder...but sometimes I buy the Flapjacked Mighty Muffins that Bariatric Pal sells...and OMG...they taste incredibly naughty and they're not. Really good.

I love me some protein Pasta, too. Chock full of chickpeas, lentils and fava beany goodness. I think I actually prefer protein pasta to regular white pasta now.

Trying to work more fermented foods into my diet to get the Probiotics working for me.

I do still love the occasional steak salad, chicken stir fry or pork chop....but it's a twice a week kinda thing. And I do love salmon on the grill lately. So good that way! I marinate it a little lemon pepper, olive oil, soy sauce and splenda brown sugar. Comes off the grill crispy and so so so delicious.

Congrats on working toward vegan:) Your heart, circulatory system and kidneys thank you.

i never had any problems with vegan subs when it came to taste and and I realized Im just not built for meat. Not daily anyway not even fish. So I will be limiting all animal based foods and focusing in plants plus I'm not having any problems getting meals in so more whole foods and leafy greens for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
