Scars 6 months out

Recommended Posts

Hi, my scars seem really dark for being 6 months after surgery. Can others chime in on shade of their scars? And if they've lightened quite a bit what they are using?

Just takes time. They do fade.

I'm 4 months out and mine have faded quite a bit. I am using this silicone tape

i'm 3 weeks out. the small ones are pretty light. I have one bigger one (about 1 inch) that is still pretty dark red. they all itch too. i'm putting on some Neosporin to help with the itch, but other than that i'm a slow healer so i'm not concerned. As soon as i'm cleared to go swimming, into the ocean I go. that might help too. If you don't live near the ocean, try some sea salt and make a salt Water solution to promote healing.

I'm 5 months post op, and the shade of my scars are still purple. I have 7 "slits". I was also stapled, so my scars look a bit worse than someone who was glued. You can use Mederma or Bio Oil to reduce the color and appearance of your scars.

Thanks guys. I've been using bio oil for the last 2 months. I just thought they should be lighter in color by now. Ordered some silicone tape. Maybe that will lighten them up some.

My scars are basically non existent at 7 months

Although they were never bad

If you have scars its likely a combo of your genetics and your skin color. And theres likely very little you can do about it

Save your money, dont buy any magic Beans

Actually the effectiveness of silicone for reducing scaring has been well studied and proven,

Its supported with data, but far from proven.

But since I dont feel like arguing I will agree its feasible than other options and probably one of the better ways to spend youre money if youre adamant on doing something.

I'm seven years out and had both sleeve and gall bladder removal done laparoscopically, so about 10 stab wounds on my stomach---somewhere. I can't see them unless I hunt for them. They look like short stretch marks. I never put anything on them, either.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
