Does anyone know of any bariatric Facebook groups that do not have the name “Bariatric” in them?? I’d love to find a closed group that I can join, but don’t want it to show my friends that I’ve joined a bariatric group. Not because I’m ashamed, just because it’s nobody’s business.

One of my friends joined a bariatric group and it showed me a few times a week that she was in it..... EVEN though it was a closed group.

I’ve only told my husband and kids that I’m having this surgery. Have t told my parents or siblings or any friends. I just don’t want the judgement and stigma that comes with it. They won’t care to take the time to educate themselves and realize that it’s still a LOT of hard work on my part. So with only my husband and kids knowing..... I still want additional support with questions or someone that I can connect with.

My surgery should be in September 2018.

Get yourself a different email address and create a new Facebook account and join from there. This is what I have done.

If you join a group on your current account, I think friends can still see you've joined and they may will look to see what the group is about, and even if the there isn't anything related to weight loss or bariatric in the group name, they would easily see what the group is about from the description.

Were you a part of that group as well? You shouldn’t be able to see anyone’s participate in a closed group; that’s odd. Maybe the admins of that group need to make it secret

You just have to adjust your privacy settings to prevent your activities being shared with anyone. It's all in the settings.

Also, a "Closed Group" doesn't hide user info, only a "Secret Group" hides user info.

  • Public
Anyone can see the group, its members and their posts.
  • Closed
Anyone can find the group and see who's in it. Only members can see posts.
  • Secret
Only members can find the group and see posts.

Yeah the problem with bariatric groups being secret is that they're secret and thus no one can find them to join. lol

Hope you do find one that works for you. Are we not enough??? :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
