I would die if all my hair fell out!!

I had amazingly thick hair when I had surgery, and I'm here to tell you that even if you lose 75% of your hair, you won't die ;-) My shedding happened twice during the last 2 years, but my hair is almost back to normal.

I lost a ton of hair between 4 - 8 months post op. The volume of my hair was pretty much cut in half. It would come out en masse in the shower, on hair bands, hair brushes, etc... I had bald Patches near my temples, similar to where I lost hair when I was breast feeding, and the top of my head was noticeably thinner. I tried oral Biotin supplements and nothing seemed to change. The product that really saved me was Nature's Bounty Hair Skin and Nail gummies. It is growing back well since I began these and I have about 2" of new growth all over my head. I did have to get my hair cut a little shorter than usual to even things out, but the ends were just strings anyway. I expected Hair loss, but was really shocked by how much I lost and how it stressed me out!

I went back to natural hair 8 years ago to stop hair shedding from the use of high blood pressure meds. At one poing I could fill up a ziplock sandwich bag with hair every morning. Just the thought of having to go through that again makes me sick to my stomach. It was so hard emotionally when it happened before. I know its just hair but I'm at that age now where it might not come back. In my culture our hair is our crown of glory and we put a lot of time and expenses into maintaining it. Sigh...

I have lost most of my hair, and I am 8 months out. I do have regrowth and have cut my hair off. Make sure you are getting your Protein and Water intake up. Good luck!

I am 3 month and half post operation and am loosing too much hair its getting me insane! I went seeing a dermatologist, she gave me Biotin shots!
I am very stressed and afraid from this matter as i feel incapable to brush my hair or even touch it as many hair will fall in my hands. It feels as if im going bald... i hope it stops soon. I honestly weren’t aware of that before the surgery i kinda feel sad.

Products usually just speed up the phases a little, but really don't stop the loss much. They can help the new growth stay healthier. I take an extra folic acid as well as the Biotin, but have noticeable Hair loss and it was thinning to begin with. Hopefully it stops soon.

I do use peppermint oil in my leave-in conditioner - there was a study done that favorably compared the results to rogaine use.

I found a really good video about Hair loss after surgery here, its long but interesting... I ended up taking notes. Towards the end they talk about shampoos etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
