Drinking too much??

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if I'm having too much to drink. How many cups of fluids is okay. I've had one cup of sustigan formula, 2 cups of clear Soup and some apple juice... very little Water, find it doesn't go down as well as the other stuff. Is that too much or not enough? I don't feel too bad but just wanted to be sure that I'm not stretching the pouch.

I thought that too at first, but Water goes right thru... You will dehydrate if you dont get enough. At first you need at least 48 oz the first couple of days to a week and slowly increase to 64...

I sip Water all day, usually averaging 1.5 gallons, yep gallons per day. This does not include Soup or anything else, just water and crystal light. I'm thinking of buying stock in crystal light to get some of my money back. Drink all the liquids you can manage. They pass right thru and will not hurt anything. Just make sure they are sugar free and non carbonated.

I usually just sip at meals until I feel full- then stop, and when I'm no longer full, I sip on Water or even gatorade mixed with some water (watching calories a little bit!) until the next meal. The most important thing I was told by my doctor (Dr. Champion) is to stop the second you feel full. That way, you can get as many liquids in as your body can tolerate. It's important to keep hydrated- I found that gatorade does the trick if you feel as if you aren't feeling too hydrated through out the day. But try mixing it with water. That way, you can get the electrolytes that gatorade provides. There's not much of a taste, but hey, water doesn't taste like anything either!! I hope that helps!

Just keep drinking. You will very likely never get "too much". I make it a point to have something to drink by me all day long. I'm not sure that the AMOUNT is so important as the consistency. Keep liquids at hand all the time. It because a habit. Now I can't sit for very long without reaching for a swig of something. Your body will tell you if you are dehydrated...you'll feel like crap and your pee will be dark and probably smelly. Keep your pee a nice clear light yellow, as Doctor Oz on Oprah says "You should be able to read a newspaper through it."

Thanks for all your responses everyone. I will continue drinking but it looks like I need to drink more Water. Must say have had no headaches and other than the stomach pain have been feeling pretty good... hard to believe after such a short time. :)

My doctor recommended Propel Water (vitamin and Calcium enhanced supplement) which is made by gatorade. It tastes really good. I've been drinking that in between meals instead of crystal light or plain water becasue at least I'm getting extra nutrients.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
