Morning everyone. I love reading these blogs and it's lovely to meet you all :D I have a question, which may be too "deep", but I'll ask anyway! My main concern is that after surgery my head won't have caught up to my smaller stomach and I'll still want to eat like I used to. Some people report cravings disappearing, but it's not guaranteed. I have an appointment with a counsellor today in the hope that the surgery combined with some therapy may help me on my way. It's got to be worth a try! Does anyone share this concern? I guess these blogs are a form of therapy too :D

July 17 for me in Michigan, VSG. Begin pre-op diet July 7. Cooking and freezing broth and organizing kitchen. Cannot eat processed foods or artificial sweeteners so it's been a grand adventure creating a workable food plan and working with stevia. Feeling excited, anxious!

I, too, am full of many "what ifs" - fear of the unknown gets the best of us. I just take a deep breath and tell myself it will all work out fine. Just tip toe thru the tulip days one at a time, and some days tip toe hour by hour. I want to enjoy the ride and not be fearful of it. I consider myself a pioneer on a journey of exploration. Issues will come up, and I will deal with them one by one. This forum is great, knowing I am not alone and have many others sharing the same trip. It's been a really supportive group so far!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
