I had my sleeve on June 1st and have only lost 10 pounds since then. I lost 8 pounds on the pre op diet for a total loss of 18 pounds. I am 48 years old. I read all the time about how the weight is just falling off other people but it’s not for me. I am always hungry. I can eat about 3/4 cup of Soup with no problem. I drink my Water and Protein. I’m starting to think that my surgeon didn’t cut enough of my stomach. I feel like I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life.

Take heart! It's still early in the process. You may still have a lot of swelling. That's different for everyone and some people just heal faster. It can take weeks for all the swelling to go down. Also, you're starting at a much lower weight than most of us, so you're not going to lose as quickly. Believe me, you did not want to start at 272 just so you could lose faster. Now that I'm closer to 200, my losses have slowed down a lot. It will work for you, but you're in the hardest phase right now. It gets easier when you move on to soft foods, I promise.

Thanks Orchid. I feel like just want to sit here and cry, but I have 3 kids that need to be taken care of so I can’t allow myself that luxury.

Dear Brass! Please stop this. You are only 10 days post surgery, and your body has been through a great deal. We all lose at different rates. I’m forty days post surgery and only down 15 lbs so your post should make me feel awful, but it doesn’t! I’m the turtle, not the hare in this story.

You are losing almost a pound a day. This qualifies as the weight falling off you!

Do you realize that you're already nearly 21% of your goal?

Thanks for helping me put things in perspective Gundy. I can’t stop myself from thinking that the surgeon didn’t cut enough.

Even with the sleeve, it is not an overnight weight loss to goal, you need to give yourself time and continue proper portion eating, don’t stretch the pouch and don’t forget the exercise. Take time to lose it correctly and you’ll be happier in the end!! Stay positive!

I have not had mine yet, but honestly that is my fear. I’m afraid that I’m not going to lose fast enough or that I can’t do it and get so discouraged. But reading the comments is incredible. I love the support I see on here. Brassapple, it may be easier for me to say right now because I’m only in pre op stage, but we’re running a marathon and not a sprint. You got this.

Congrats on the loss! Orchid is right- have to look at your own numbers! 21% in 10 days?!? When have you ever lost that much that fast ? :)
I think I lost about 1 lb every day or two in the beginning too— it adds up!

Hang in there- start weighing yourself less often if it’s becoming a lot for you . I know that’s hard! I’m trying to only weigh in 2 times per week haha

Try to keep your loss personalized to you and congrats again!

Gundy- no what I mean is we’re preparing for a long -journey (marathon) not a sprint - quick finish) It’s going to take awhile is I guess what I was trying to say.

I have to ask cause I'm kinda gobsmacked.

What, exactly, did you expect from this surgery?

I’m not sure what astounds you? It’s NOT a quick fix. Many people fail. It’s not just surgery but that of a lifestyle change. So, I expect weight loss while I alter my lifestyle and habits. I empathize with Brass as I may have the same concerns. Is it not ok that I’m afraid I may fail?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
