Hi guys, first post.. but I need help.

I had my bypass on Monday 11th, today is Wednesday 13th.

I'm really struggling and right now feeling much regret. I'm struggling to get anything down, I'm only on clear liquid at the moment. I'm so thirsty and miss just quenching that. My body is showing signs of hunger (like my throat and stomach feel ravenous) but my brain doesn't and I couldn't get it down even if I tried. I'm trying to be positive but right now I'm only happy when I'm sleeping.

I don’t think that your throat and stomach are showing signs of being hungry. These feelings/sensations are normal for almost everyone. After surgery my throat was dry/sore and a bit pulsating but I contribute that to the breathing tube; my stomach gurgled and made all sorts of loud noises the first few post op. My stomach still makes those noises but not as loud.

These feelings will fade, just continue with your doctors orders and make sure you get your Fluid in

Hey!

Don't worry, I felt the same way and questioned my decision to undergo gastric bypass a few days after my surgery. I cried and all I wanted to do was sleep. It does get better. Vent on these forums...the members are great and we have all been there. Just remember why you chose to do WLS in the first place and you will be fine.

Good luck! Message me anytime :)

@MoMoMeister these are all totally normal feelings and emotions. The first month or so just flat out SUCKS for most things. They do get better. Are you home already? I was in recovery for 2 days post surgery. There is a lot of adjusting that's going to happen, those "feelings" in your throat and stomach more than likely aren't hunger at all, but discomfort/pain due to the surgery. Just keep reminding yourself that this isn't permanent, it's temporary and WILL change. Each day you should feel a little better than before. Just be aware of the changes, try to understand them and you'll make it through just fine!

Keep doing your best, follow those instructions to the letter, and soon enough you'll be very happy you had the surgery!

Had surgery Wednesday I’m struggling with very similar issues!! Dry spot in my throat , but not able to drink enough at once for it to go away!! Really just want to sleep in between my walks. Not getting near enough liquid everything makes me gag 😕

Hey. Im 15 days post-op. Feeling much better. Just hang in there because it gets better. If you feel better while sleeping, than by all means you should get some rest. I hadn't ate much my first week after surgery. Drank Water when I had to take my regular thyroid meds and only when I needed my pain med. But yes. Rest rest rest.

Yeah those first few days just flat out suck, and many of us sleeve that time fearing that we'd made a terrible choice. It gets better pretty quickly - now going on 3 weeks out and I feel so much better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
