Returning to work? How soon? (Gastric Sleeve)

Recommended Posts

If all goes well Dr. said I could return to work after a week. Is that realistic?
Thanks for your input.

I have an office job. Not all sitting, not all standing. A little of both. I went back 8 days after surgey. The 1st day was a little rough, i was all alone in the office for 9 hours, but i survived. Every since then its been fine. So i would say it depends on what type of job you have. Hooe this helps

I have a desk job and I returned after 7 days and it was fine. I have a desk that goes from standing to sitting so I made sure to alternate often. I am 13 days post op and I feel awesome (knock on wood).

I’m a nurse. Doctor gave me 6 weeks but I think I’ll go back sooner. I’m 10 days post op and starting to feel like myself again.

I have a desk job, and short term disability that covered my salary. I took 4 weeks, and wish I had taken 6. Not because I had a difficult recovery, but because it was nice to have time to learn new habits and focus on ME. It was fantastic.

My doc suggests taking 4-6 weeks just to get used to the new normal. I have short term disability and I plan to take at least 4 weeks. I work in an office but I lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis. I want to make sure all is well before I come back.

I’m glad you asked this as I have my sleeve done on the 18th and plan to return to work on the 25th. Hoping I do as good!

I work from home so I took no time off work. But a week to go back into an office, desk job would have been fine. I started traveling for work at three weeks post op, so I certainly wouldn't have needed to be off and at home for more than a few days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
