Hi everyone, I’m 9 days post op and Still on liquids, I wanted to know if I can eat/drink bean broth. I made a pot of bean Soup with ribs for my husband and I wanted to know if I can drink the liquid from it? Im dying for some salt, does anyone have any suggestions if I can’t? All the broths are low sodium and that’s not cutting it for me. Please help! Thank you

If it's a liquid, and you can drink liquids, then go for it.
We need some salt in our diets anyway. Just as long as you should be watching your blood pressure or sodium intake... take it slow in case you've got any reactions, but... it's a liquid and you are approved liquids.

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I would stick with diet Dr. advised. If you stray from it I hear you should strain it for any chunks of food that may be present.

My doctor also said no salt and no sugar, I know Beans are loaded with sodium, that’s also a concern I had and forgot to mention, opinions? Thank you everyone

The OP specifically asked if they could drink the liquid part... which, being on a liquid diet, means you can drink liquid.

If the Docs said no salt... I'd have to ask them if they meant no added salt or really "no salt" because Sodium exists in so many things, including the approved shakes and lots of other "approved" foods/liquids/etc, I mean, chicken broth is acceptable and that's got plenty of sodium in it... Honestly, if all other broths are allowed, I can't for the life of me see why broth from Beans would somehow not be allowed. But as always, if you are REALLY worried about it, call your doctor, surgical team or nutritionist.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
