Secound thoughts

Recommended Posts

Well, you still have the choice. You can choose food, or you can choose yourself.

That list you have more than likely outlines foods that people typically can't eat, it doesn't mean that you can't eat those (you shouldn't) but it also doesn't outline foods you might have issues with after surgery.

Speaking of Surgery, which WLS are you going for? Because that changes things to some extent.

But yes, part of getting thinner with WLS, is giving up certain foods forever.

It depends on your surgery, and surgeon. I was sleeved and I have no "forbidden" foods.

I still eat popcorn. No problems.

However, corn on the cob gets stuck and I can't tolerate it. Not sure why?

To be successful, you're going to have to give up a lot of your old eating habits. Sugar, in particular, is a challenge for most. Anything refined. It's hard and it takes a lot of discipline.

You can't go into bariatric surgery thinking the surgery is going to do the heavy lifting long term. It will do its part and help....but ultimately your habits need to change.

People seem shocked when we say....yes, you lose weight through DIETING after surgery. But it's true, it's all about changing your forever diet and your eating habits. The surgery helps, but the dietary changes...the biggest effort... is squarely on you.

One of mine will be rice, I choke on both white and brown, if I manage to swallow it, it feels like a concrete lump there, that's with my natural stomach, it is a certanity I won't inflict it,on my renovation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
