Calorie intake and cheat days

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am a few weeks over my 5 month PO from VSG and let me tell you I have not really regretted this surgery. On sunday's, I allow myself a "cheat" day so I don't stall and it helps to drop me in lbs for some odd reason. On average, I am about 950-1150 calories a day and on a low-carb diet. Sometimes I feel like this is on target for where I should be, but then there are days where I feel sooo hungrrrryyy and but then my stomach is telling me I'm full. Where are you guys at with your progress? Stats are listed and are up to date.

I wouldn't call it a "cheat" day, but just my new norm. I'm super strict throughout M-F with eating super clean (lean meats, veggies, limited starchy things, etc), and restrict calories to about 1100-1400. On Sat-Sun, I still track on MyFitPal, am aim for a calorie goal of ~1800-2000, but I allow myself to eat whatever I want within that calorie limit.

Not only had this kept me sane in not really craving things throughout the week, but I think it's helped regulate my motabolism and prevent me from crashing it as I've read about others. I feeel the strategy has worked as I have a streak of now 39 straight weeks with losing weight at my Friday weigh-in (dates back to pre-surgery) and down almost 167lbs total since I started this process.

What are you defining as a cheat day? I don't really do cheat days so much as I have rest days and I let my calories go over 2000 without going to the gym. But if you mean eating ice cream or fast food; then no, I don't do cheat days.

FML now I have to consider cheat days lol joking , I have just been staying in calorie limits and macro goals and still I stall, I don't know if there is a science to it. I think people and weightloss just varies Congrats on being able to be flexible and still smash your goals

Not necessarily; just allow myself to eat more carbs than usual.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
