December Surgery Dates

Recommended Posts

Frisky, I had to take a class with a nutritionist. You can have 1 cup portions, and I have had nuts already, so that is not true that you can't have nuts. There is a thread somewhere with what people are really eating, and they lay out their meals. Go read some of that. You did get bad information.

And, Granny, YES I am hungry. I thought the lapband procedure itself would end that, but now I've found out that different people react differently. I am one who needs a fill to have any restriction. I have been very hungry and haven't lost as much as I'd like to lose. I have read many posts where others have done similarly, and some said they even GAINED weight before getting a fill. We are in stages, and everyone reacts differently. So, we still have far to go on our journey, but don't be disheartened. We've made the right choice. We just have to take it one day at a time.

I know the calorie count of 500 calories a day is a joke and would be irresponsible to maintain that low of calories. .
My doc suggests *starting* with ~550 cal/day (three 2-4 oz protein-rich meals plus non-nutritive liquids through the day) during the first two weeks. I truly could only manage 2 oz at a time those first few days - I just had my first 4 oz bowl of Soup yesterday - and I'm only just starting to surpass 500 cal/day.

My nutritionist suggests moving toward 800+ cal (4-6 oz food). I can't imagine reaching that level of intake with liquids, but I know I'll have no problem once I start mushies at the beginning of week 3.

I agree that 500 cal longterm would not be enough! Perhaps the OP misunderstood the directions?

Oh, and I seem to be one of the lucky ones so far - I haven't been hungry at all. I feel my stomach growling occasionally, but it doesn't translate to hunger for some reason. I've wanted to eat something I can't have (tunbrod and lefse, Scandanavian flat bread we only make at Christmas), but it's been all head hunger, plus a desire to taste something other than Soup and yogurt/protein shakes, LOL.

I'm finding it very interesting to discover the new feeling of "full". It doesn't happen in the same place anymore! Weird.

Good luck to the last of the December 07 bandsters on Monday!

Thanks Destiny, jazz is good! Working on making it better! Hope you are doming along well. I was banded the day before you by Dr. Snow. I get my first fill on Jan 14th. I will be glad because I am getting my appetite back and feeling very little restriction. Having to be very aware of what I am eating to stay in control. Cheers!

My fill is at Dr. Snows office. I wish I could say I was at 1000 cal but I would be lying. Fortunately I haven't really gotten to eating more until this week. I have to slap my own hand because you know it is hard not to office snack during the holidays. I am doing the chewing thouroghly thing and I can't eat and drink at the same time so I am being careful.

Lots of great N.O. musicains in Dallas. We my have a shortage of good venues but not talent.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
