December Surgery Dates

Recommended Posts

I'm home. I got here around lunchtime and had 1/2 cup milk mixed with Protein Powder. I, too, can start the Protein powder the day I got home and will be on restricted liquids the next three weeks. It's three weeks of mushies after that.

I can't believe how good I feel. I am totally pain free. I have some discomfort at the incision sights but no pain. I can even bend over and put on my socks and shoes. I only used the morpine drip the first three hours. For some reason the gas pain has illuded me. I have had laproscopic surgery before and really experienced the gas pain under the shoulder blades for over a week. Not this time. Doctor said if I don't have it yet, I probably won't get it. He told me he got all the gas out. I think he was kidding. He was fantastic though. I couldn't sleep in the hospital - just catnapped during the night. I even stayed awake all day long. The first thing I did after lunch was crawl into bed. I can even lay on my side which is my normal sleeping position. I couldn't do that in the hospital because if I tried I unplugged the boots they had on my fee for compression. My legs were too big for the stockings.

I wish everyone well the rest of the month. I can't wait to hear from the others and those having it today. I hope all went well.

I forgot to mention that the surgeon was not able to repair my abdominal hernia - it was too big and will require mesh to fix it. Couldn't do it at the same time. At least now when I have abdominalplasty in a year or year and a half, they can repair it then and insurance will cover the surgery for both. If he had fixed it now, it would have to be redone then anyway. He did say he found a large hiatal hernial and repaired it though. I have had it since my pregnancy with my daughter 42 years ago.

Dandydeb . . . the only thing I can suggest is to keep yourself busy while you are waiting . . . I was going nuts the week before . . . so just kept going to do things like shopping . . . cleaning (A BIGGIE FOR ME - I'm not Suzie Homemaker) . . . movies . . .projects for Christmas gifts . . . there is no easy way to get through the waiting . . . but oh my . . .you are getting so close!

Dandydeb,

Make sure you have plenty of Soups, Protein Drinks etc for when you get home - you will not feel like preparing anything after the surgery. Have a liquid Vitamin available - you need to be taking these daily to help your recovery. Make sure you have really comfortable clothes to come home in - fashion comes second to comfort on this occasion - if you can get away with out a bra do so or take a really comfortable one with you as many of the incision will be along the band line. Take a book or something with you in case you have a long wait. Can't think of anything else right now.

Danna

I had mine done the 6th also. Not too sure if I am hungry either. I am not in pain to speak of, my incisions are sore. I had mine done in Mexico and the next morning I went shopping for 2 hours!. I have a hungry feeling in my stomach (the big part of my stomach) but drinking liquids does not satisfy the feeling. Maybe it isn't hunger...not too sure. It feels like I swallowed a piece of hard candy and it is stuck in my chest. It is not too painful, just annoying.

Overall I am feeling great, the little bit of gas I had has subsided, I have just been walking around the house and doing light housework. It helps to move around.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
