December Surgery Dates

Recommended Posts

Welcome NewMe! I am also being banded on the 6th. I'm getting a little more anxious every day. It is getting to be so distracting I'm having a hard time focussing on my job.

This place is great. You can read about anything you are worried about and ask questions about it all. Don't get discouraged. We are all in this together.

Hello People!

Just got a date today whoooo!!!! I'm excited..as if you couldn't tell. :whoo: Looks like the 20th for now. I'm really suprised because I thought I was looking at January at least. Now, if I can just loose the last 11lbs. before my date I'll be in good shape. I'm sure all the pre-op stuff will be fine. Dr. Avara in Mississippi if anyone is curious. I've got the merry part down...now I'm working on the looser part.

CONGRATS to everyone! Wishing you all loads of luck!

I am proud of all the December bandsters that we have in this group. I was a self pay and my Doctor let me pick what month I wanted to have the surgery and the earliest was Dec. I chose December because December type meals are what got me in this situation. There is no reason to wait till a New Year resolution lets attack this now and get on with our new life.

hey everyone,

I haven't been on the site much lately, I've been pretty sick. I've had my surgery postponed/cancelled for awhile. :faint:

I've got a bad case pertussis(whooping cough), and the docs tell me 2 to 4 months before my lungs are healthy enough for surgery.

It's been fun reading all of your posts and finding out I'm not the only one who feels the way I do. It really sucks that I went all this way on this journey and it's basically jerked out from underneath me. Well, everything happens for a reason.

Take care and Merry Christmas! Maybe I'll be back on the list in a future month in '08.

Cerrin,

Thanks, I'm hoping so too. I am so drugged up on antibiotics, steroids and living with my inhaler, I think I'd have to die to feel better, (just kidding). Take care, happy banding!!

I just got my date today! I'm scheduled for December 18th! I was hoping it would be next week just so I'd be back in fighting form for my big holiday party on the 24th but I think a week might be enough time. Regardless it's really nice to finally have an "official" date!

Whoo hoo

Hey everyone ... I just got my date ... finally. It is December 18!!! I was hoping for the 21 so I wouldn't have to take off of work (School's break starts on the 21) ... but it looks like I will have to take off a few days. I am sure it will all be worth it. ADD ME TO THE LIST!!! I see I am not alone on this date! Thank goodness because I need someone to walk with through this journey.

Hey from Texas, y'all! My date is on Dec. 20. Hopefully perfect timing. I'll have to take 2 days off work, then the weekend, then Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. Then back to work on that Wednesday. I hope this is a realistic goal! Glad to be a part of this board.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
