Had my gastric sleeve surgery Monday, June 11th

Recommended Posts

It was a long wait to get started. Fell asleep around 330pm for surgery and I woke up at 7 pm. Very painful wake up with gas, incisions, etc. My Dr fixed 2 hernias while he was doing the surgery too.

I have a morphine pump, did a swallow test and I am walking. The gas pain is similar to a hernia repair. I am able to sip Water and keep it down. Also, I am not hungry at all.

Congrats on your new adventure! I had my VSG on May 16th so a few days away from a month still. Honestly I wasn't hungry for the first week or so, even now I have to remind myself to eat and not just drink all day. It will get easier but the gas pain is no joke. I have found a lot of puree recipes on pinterest. I am sticking to my surgeon and nutritionists diet plan for me, I don't want to cheat and since my surgery I have lost 19 pounds.

Thanks for the tips. I don't want to cheat either. All this pain and expense-- it would be foolish to cheat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
