Work travels-Food Prep

Recommended Posts

I will be traveling for July 9th for work and I am worried about getting enough food through the day. I will be going to a conference/award ceremony type thing where i don’t have control of my schedule(meal). I will be 6 weeks post op so i will be just starting on full foods.

Any advice on what i can bring in my luggage(flying to NYC) that can carry easy multiple days and sneak meals at the table?

Of course after that I’m going straight from NYC to Charleston SC for work then Santa Fe, New Mexico. So any and all plane travel Snacks you have that helped let me know.

You should be able to pick out a few items that you are able to eat at that point. This is where will power is going to be key, well that and the fact that you don't want to accidentally eat something that'll cause you to dump. Airlines really only care about liquids in certain sizes. You can bring Protein Bars and other "food" stuffs, it's just the liquids they get antsy about. Freeze dried and dehydrated items travel well.

I travel for work nearly every week. My first trip was 3 weeks post surgery. For that trip, it was similar, an event where I had no control over my meals. I completely over thought it and packed a tons of stuff like shelf stable hummus, mashed potato cups, Protein muffins, etc.. I didn't touch any of it. I just ate the meals as scheduled, Breakfast, lunch & dinner. There was no need nor opportunity to eat any of the foods I packed.

The only items I think that are of value to bring with are protein drinks/powders and protein bars, because it's hard to get all your protein early on from "normal" food.

As for air travel, it's actually pretty easy. All airport stores have good choices among the bad, Jerky, nuts, dehydrated cheese Snacks. Cheese and fruit packs are easy to find as well, often able to be purchased on the plane too. Sandwiches can be disassembled and the meat and cheese eaten. You can eat the meat out of entree salads, etc.

I would ask your surgeons team about seeing if you could start your transitions to soft & regular foods a little early. That way you can test your reactions at home, and not risk it at an event.

Good luck!

I recommend Protein Powder and a shaker bottle. Several of the Syntrax flavors mix well with plain Water and I have purchased a 'sample' pack on Amazon that had a variety of flavors all in single serving packets. That way no matter what you can get Protein and your liquids which are the most important things at 6 weeks out. Airports are pretty easy as mentioned above - meat/cheese out of a sandwich, hard boiled eggs, cheese sticks, and yogurt are readily available - just read the labels carefully on the yogurt. Ask you program about protein bars, mine doesn't allow them until 6 months out but yours might for this sort of situation. Absolutely try a few things out at home first if you can to make sure you can tolerate them and aren't uncomfortable on the trip. And once you get to your destination look for a convenience store nearby where you can pick up a few staples to keep in your room refrigerator - again, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese sticks and lunchmeat. I frequently toss a cheese stick in my work bag in case I need it but I know some people get worked up about keeping them ice cold - so that's up your comfort level.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
