I’m about 4 months post op. Went to a wedding this past weekend had 2 glasses of wine — very slowly — had little to no effect on me. Has anyone else had drinks occasionally post op??

We were told to wait until at least 6 months... but that said, I've had a few oz of whiskey, the key is to take your time and to remember that alcohol is rather high calorie (depending I know). Seems like you handled things the right way.

I found that it tasted VILE!!! I had half a glass of champagne at a brunch 9 months post op. TERRIBLE. And in minutes I could feel a really big buzz. I did not like it at all. So I no longer drink. Be careful. It will be hard on your stomach and lots of calories. But if you enjoy it, use it as a treat.

I had my first post surgery drink when I was about 4 Months out. I used to love red wine but I now despise it. Tastes horrible for some reason. I drink beer now but it fills me up so quickly. Also, post surgery, the alcohol hits me very quickly and it doesn't take much to become intoxicated. The occasional light beer seems to be the best course of action for me. Good luck

I drank a couple ounces of mead recently. It was tasty, but I drink less than a handful of times a year...so I can take it or leave it.

I've had some wine and it only hits me a little faster than before - but haven't really indulged that much. Champagne bubbles feel like rocks, so not much fun but I let it get flatter and it was okay. I dislike beer and have had one rum drink - now that hit faster.

I’m currently taking a 30 day hiatus from alcohol but i can drink the same as I did pre op unfortunately. Although my tastes have changed. And I used to love red wine but now it tastes like straight acid. I don’t want the useless calories anymore. Maybe special occasions after this 30 days :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
