flipbarnett 0 Posted November 4, 2007 :sick I havent gotten my date for surgery yet, hoping for November or December. I thought I'd try the Protein Drinks and get used to them. I bought the 100% whey Protein Drink from GNC berry mix. It taste good but after drinking it, i guess 20 min later my stomach started cramping and i felt kind of sick. Is this normal? Hoping to get insurance approval soon. This weight is driving me nuts. Thanks Felicia
Longhorn 1 Posted November 4, 2007 The only time I've been lactose intolerant was when I drank a whey Protein shake. However, usually if I take Lactaid when I drink it, I'm okay. I didn't have any trouble with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury before my surgery but I got very bloated yesterday, one day after surgery, even though I took some chewable Lactaid. So I switched to low-carb SlimFast and the bloating went away. Now, that may have just been related to surgery so I'm going to try the Unjury again tomorrow. Anyway, even if you've never been lactose intolerant before, the whey Protein may trigger it. I agree with the suggestion to try soy protein. I'm going to do that next if I find out that the whey really is the problem.
flipbarnett 0 Posted November 4, 2007 Thanks for the advice. I thought it might be the whey. I have never been able to drink whole milk. I can barely digest 2%. cheese and yogurt don't bother be, nor ice cream, just milk. I'm headed to the store to get the soy. Thanks a bunch and I hope you feel better too Longhorn. Thanks all F
Longhorn 1 Posted November 4, 2007 Thanks, Flip! Let us know what you get, if you like it, and if it works. I may have to try soy next.
karla 0 Posted November 6, 2007 I found a great tasting Protein shake at Sam's club ~ it's made by EAS (Energy Athletics Systems) and it's called AdvantEDGE Carb Control. It is sugar free, only has 4 carbs, and has 17 grams of Protein. It doesn't taste bad either. Of course, Sam's sells the 24 count case, but I have seen it at Walmart in the pharmacy area by the other drinks in a small 4 pack. I haven't had any problems with it. It's worth a try. karla 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Sorry ~ correction ~ it's EAS (Energy Athletics Strength) My bad! Karla
Pattypoo1 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Check the Protein and see if it is whey isolate. If it is whey concentrate, then it can contain a lot of lactose as a filler. The isolate is pure...no lactose.
make33 2 Posted November 6, 2007 Thanks Patty--I'm a big proponent of whey Protein isolate shakes, which are totally lactose free (chocolate malt and belgian chocolate are my favorites). And I do find that mixing it with Water actually tastes better than with skim milk! Think what you got, Felicia, was whey Protein concentrate--which requires a blender and is not as pure. I've been buying my isolate at Amazon.com because that way I'm sure I'm getting the isolate and also (best of all)--free shipping!! Glad you're doing well, Patty--and good luck Felicia... acalpn 0 Posted November 10, 2007 can anyone tell me if these protien mixes have any artificial sweeteners in them. i try to stay away from them because they don't make me feel to well. thanx
make33 2 Posted November 11, 2007 Both of the chocolate whey Protein isolates I use contain sucralose. The unjury (unflavored) whey Protein isolate has 1 gram of carb but doesn't list it in the ingredients. Hope this helps...
make33 2 Posted November 11, 2007 BTW, I also use a "chicken broth" whey Protein isolate which really tastes like chicken broth (20 gram per scoop) and an unflavored isolate for adding to instant s/f pudding and jello--and anything else you want to put it in! Both are sold at unjury.com--which was recommended to me by a doctor.
LovingWhatIs 0 Posted November 25, 2007 I recommend unjury medical quality Protein. It is delish and doesn't have the side affects you described that are common to many Protein drinks. This product is geared to Weight Loss surgery patients. Welcome to the Unjury Homepage. oh, and 20 GRAMS A SERVING! And lower in calories than most!
juliegeraci 7 Posted November 26, 2007 Felicia, you may want to move to a soy based product.
