What are your favorite, but hated Stereotypes...

Recommended Posts

lol and Im with you guys on the gay issue. I have a lot of gay friends (I mean A LOT)! And they are all SOOOO different. There are some no one would ever know was gay, some that people know but know not to mess with, and some Im just waiting to spontaneously combust because they are so stereotypically gay lol! All I know is that straight guys could take a few lessons from the gays, especially in fighting...I know that Im not going to mess with ANY man that can wear stilettos and DANCE in them! lol that is one BAD mofo!

That I'm a stupid person because I need to lose weight!

My brain is fine, but a 120-pound woman remains trapped inside this chubby body...

I ate her! LOL

That blue collar workers/construction workers are ignorant and druggies. I've owned a roofing business for 35 years and the home owners always talk down to y roofers and office employees.

They have attempted to do so with me as well, but after 35 years I don't take too much chit :woot:. They usually they will tell me they want to speak to my boss, I just tell them, "this is as high as it gets". I always start out nice, unless they've disrespected one of my employees, then it's on! My delivery driver has 6 years of college, LOL.

Be kind to your roofer and your repairman, they're not all out to screw you, we're all just trying to make a living ;).

LMAO, not to stereotype, but doctors and engineers are the absolute worse, I just had to share that, :heh:.

Omigawd! Thanks for posting this! I worked as a unionized grunt building aircraft until I retired. I sure did have fun dealing with those folks who believed in this unpleasant stereotype. haha ;)

Very cute post. :bounce: But, yah, people do assume that chubbies are idiots, especially if the chubby is a woman. ;)

Oh here are many that I get on a regular basis:

Your husband is Jordanian Muslim so you converted to Islam like I don't have a brain and didn't study Islam on my own.

You wear a headscarf b/c your husband won't let you leave your home without.

Your husband will beat you someday b/c he's allowed to.

You can't be American if you are Muslim too so which country are you from? I get this one nonstop and ppl will speak really slow to me like I can't understand. When i tell them I'm from Illinois they say no what country were you born in?

Ok so I am a senior getting a biology degree and a minor in biochemistry...I am not a dumbass...but I grew up in a small texas town..so I have an accent. I swear people always assume that because of my accent, I am a dumbass. Like when I go to classes with people I dont know, no one will study with me, b/c I talk with a bad drawl, then we get tests back and whoops! who broke the curve...my bad YA'LL!!

Also someone told me once that I had to be nice because I have curly hair...umm I had no idea that hair went with personality..thank god Im not a blonde..then people would really thinkI was a moron...but a nice one, with a "cute" southern drawl!

Back to the country thing again, someone asked me how young I was before I got married..apparently if youve got my accent, you get married at 16...ps Im not even married not even a ring on my hand..lol hell no prospects either!!

Well, that's because "all gay men have tract lighting, all gay men are named Mark, Rick or Steve" - have you NOT seen Steel Magnolias?! :) My brother gets the "You don't act Gay" or "You don't look Gay" all the time. He's a cop - he's on a SWAT team at that. His response is often "Oh - I'm sorry, I forgot to burst into flames before walking in the room so you would have a firm grasp on my personal life - this is my undercover policeman disguise!" :car:

OMG now that is a reply.. I love it. Now i'm gonna IM My brother tell him about this one.. He gets that ALLOT.. All the "you don't look gay" comments.

Only once in my lifetime did I EVER meet a guy who fits the *stereotype* in interior design class years ago. And to top it off he WASN'T gay.

But he used to tell me he let people think he was gay cause the girls payed way more attention to him, talked honestly and openly with him and guys didn't threaten him cause they through their girlfriends were safe :( Boy did he have most people fooled.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
