Do Protein shakes count as water intake?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve surgery June 4th, I’m trying to get in all my Water and Protein daily, I’m up to 3 bottled waters a day and 2 Protein Shakes. So basically about 40 ounces of water and climbing daily. But do the protein shakes count as water intake ? Because if they do that I would be meeting the 64 ounces......

Some surgeons say no to this, but it seems most say yes. All fluids count - as do popsicles!

Mine said yes. Aaaaand I still count them as Water 6 months out. But I make mine with water and powder only so I think that’s ok 🤔

I don't personally count it. I use milk in my shakes not Water, so... I just don't count it as water.

But, lots do.

That said, 40 oz of water only 7 days post-op is really good.

My program allowed it. Protein Shakes, popsicles, broth all counted towards Fluid intake. Also, I didn’t have to stop drinking 30 before 30 after during liquid stages.

The Fluid requirement is met by a combination. It is not only the Water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your Vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the Protein Shakes. It is the water component of the Soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and Decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day.

Thank you everyone, I was worried I would get dehydrated. I’m trying to sip every waking minute lol. I also don’t wait 30 after 30 before, I just alternate when I finish a bottled Water I start right up with Protein Shake. Doctors told me water, Protein, walk, so I’m really trying hard to follow everything to a T! I don’t want to have ANY complications. Thanks again!!

Liquid is liquid, is liquid

protein shakes are made with milk or Water - so i was told to count towards

my liquid daily total - broth also counts as liquid - (alcohol does NOT count)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
