WHAT made you choose YOUR SURGEON?

So how did YOU pick your surgeon, anyone else want to chime in?

Insurance mainly.

My insurance either covered CHI Franciscan which is about 12 miles from my house or Swedish Hospital which is 45 miles away. A lot of my coworkers have had WLS at CHI Franciscan since our health plan finally started covering it 2 years ago and had nothing but good experiences there and it was a more reasonable drive than Swedish. All the surgeons there are good from what I've heard so I just picked one and made an appointment after I'd done the seminar. I wasn't picky on which surgeon I saw and Dr. Anwar was able to get me in a week after my insurance approved the consult appointment.

I'm pre op but my insurance just approved my surgery Friday.

My surgeon, and his whole team, practice at a bariatric center of excellence. Their approach is holistic, and they prepare patients every step of the way for success. I had other options, but went with my surgeon because of all this, his level of experience, and my confidence in his skills. Couldn't be happier.

My doc referred me to a program that had two possible choices for surgeons. I was assigned one of them. I literally met the guy once before surgery 🤷🏼‍♀️ what he did is such a small part of my entire journey, I wasn’t concerned

He was one of two surgeons at the bariatric practice for my hospital. I also picked him because I wanted my surgery on my birthday and that was his surgery day.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
