Is anyone else close to their surgery date and have this fear of getting sick; a cold, flu, kidney stones, chicken pox, etc and having their surgery cancelled? Lol

Every time I sneeze, have an itch or a headache I freak out that I am coming down with something and they will cancel my surgery in 10 days. Haha

That would be my luck!

Yep and it happened like 2 weeks before. I was freaking out about my cold but my doctor said it wouldn’t keep me from getting surgery. The prob was that I had a cough from hell and I felt like if I coughed like that after my surgery I’d deff snap every single staple and stitch but the antibiotics they gave me after surgery to prevent infection completely cured my cough. I totally understand what you feel, it’s been such a long and difficult road to get here and with our luck the chances of something getting in the way it’s not very unlikely lol..

On this forum, whenever someone asks, "Am I the only one?" The answer is always no. You are not alone.

Omg, I was extremely frightened of this. The flu was taking people out left and right. I had gotten my flu shot in the fall, but I was terrified. In fact, they bumped up my surgery time because the 3 people before me had to reschedule due to the flu. What made matters worse was, I had to stop all Vitamins for 10 days prior to surgery. So, my regimen of Vitamin C wasn't an option. I carried around hand sanitizer and washed every chance I could get. I also avoided going out unnecessarily for the few weeks before. I cooked at home, and was EXTREMELY paranoid. I literally took my temperature 3 times a day in the days leading up to surgery. I had everything planned to the "T". My surgery was over 3 hours away, and I had already timed out my Primary Physician's release, the pre op testing, all of my travel arrangements, and pet/house sitting deposits. I would have lost hundreds of dollars if it had been canceled. Thankfully it worked out, and I had surgery as scheduled. I think the stress really took a toll. I ended up with Shingles (I'm 29 btw) before I left the hospital after surgery.

Little bit of control freak came out, huh? LOL

But seriously, like you, I had my surgery in prime flu season, and did the whole hand sanitizer/avoid people thing, too.;)

My surgery is in 11 days and I woke up 3 days ago with strep throat. I had my preop that day and my doctor said as long as I finish my antibiotics I'll be fine for my surgery the 20th.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
