My PCP sent a referral to my insurance

Recommended Posts

My pcp wrote me a referral to the surgeon and I attended a seminar and from there began my 6 month supervised weight loss. Currently in month 5.

My PCM sent a referral to the bariatric program (same organization....Baylor Scott and White is huge) and the staff there contacted my insurance and determined they would cover the surgery. At that point, I got an appointment with the surgeon and then received my book with all my instructions for the various appointments needed preop. Since there was no requirement for supervised weight loss I just went to the various appointments (7 total I think) and the day after the last one they called me with a surgery date. Took less than 4 months.

Wow your procesa seemed pretty easy. Mine has been a roller coaster and a bunch of follow up on my end. A lot has to do with the fact I changed surgeons and wasn't told about all the appointments I'd have to have up front...I'm taking group nutrition classes at Baylor Scott and White (they are massive and pretty good). I just want to get on the damn schedule for surgery. The summer is approaching and I have travel plans. Also would like to get this done while my son is away visiting family and I have time to focus on myself. Ugggghhh how frustrating!!![emoji21][emoji21][emoji21]

It was pretty easy...the preop requirements are dictated by the insurance according to the surgeon. I had a cardiology visit, a stress echo, 3 psychology sessions (one for testing), 2 nutrition classes, 1 session 1:1 with nutritionist and a 1/2 day appointment included EKG, labs, financial counselor and signing papers. The longest wait was for the nutritionist.

All the pre-op requirements for my VSG took 18 months. BUT, once the paperwork was submitted, I got approved in 3 days.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
