Cleaning out your intestines just makes sense to me given what they are doing. My sister did this 15 years ago her Dr had her clean out.
My surgery team doesn’t even mention it.
So my question is did yours require you to clean out prior to surgery? If so what did you use and when?
Because I’m leaning more towards doing it but I don’t know what to use or when exactly.
Or is it pointless?

Back in 2011, I saw that bypass patients were being given meds to flush their systems prior to surgery, so I was surprised when I didn't have to do that for my revision to bypass. Things change, if your surgeon / surgical team doesn't require it, I'm sure there is a reason, more than likely the flush wasn't necessary and simply doing liquids for a while before hand was enough.

I'd suggest not doing anything on your own without talking to your team. If you end up doing the wrong thing or taking the wrong thing... you *could* end up having your surgery canceled or delayed. Might not happen, but do you really want to risk it?

I was on a two week liquid diet when I had my revision to bypass, so I am sure my team thought that was more than enough.

when I had my sleeve, I was told to take the magnesium citrate I believe. I have also taken the magnesium citrate for my other abdominal surgeries to make sure my bowels weren’t full so they didn’t get in the way of the surgical procedure

Mine did not require any clearing of the pipes, so just follow your dr's advice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
